Great day on the water today with brothers Jason and Ronnie Short! We caught all 3 species of bass, largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted. Congrats to Jason on catching his personal best largemouth bass weighing in at 8.7 lbs! Jason has fished with me for the past 7 years. This one helps heal the wound from Monday when my longest tenured client of 27 years lost one at the boat this big or bigger.

This young man started fishing with me when he was 8 years old on trips with his dad. He is now a sophomore is High School with aspirations of being a professional angler or doing something in the fishing industry. He’s off to a good start as you can see below! We fished coming off of a cold front and he had no problem getting fish in the boat. He’s an outstanding young man with a bright future and I’m proud to have been a figure in his life! Today marked a special day for me as I start my 30th year as a full time guide on Broken Bow Lake. I had 2 life long friends, Jeremy Poole and Bruce McKeever, that I have fished with individually in tournaments and just leisurely. Today was a first, as we were able to all get in the boat together for a great day of fishing and fellowship on our home lake of Broken Bow.

As you can see, early winter fishing is in full swing, with all 3 species of bass being caught. We kept some for a family fish fry and turned the rest back to catch another day. Today I had the pleasure of contributing to the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs annual fundraising fish fry. Coach Shane Putman and I met in junior college, roomed together for 2 years, and played basketball together. We have another trip scheduled in a few weeks to top off the batch we currently have, and make sure everyone gets plenty of fish. Please come out to support the Lady Bulldogs on Saturday, April 26th.

A big thank you and congrats to my long time dear friend and client, Dr. Jack Mocnik. This is the 25th year he has been fishing with me. I want to thank him for believing in a young guide and sticking with me for all these years. We celebrated today by catching 56 fish in a variety of species. Thanks again Doc for the great memories!

Spring break is all about families having fun! On my trip today, I had Clay, Tyler, and Tucker. Tucker boated his personal best smallmouth at 3.9lbs. We boated over 50 white bass in 4 hours as they make their annual run up river to spawn. I have a few slots open for 3-4 hour trips next week, and if I can’t go, I have several referral guides. Today I had the pleasure of fishing with my good friend and client, Jody Barnard. We put the new Smackdown 733 MB series spinning rods to the test. We caught close to 100 white bass as they make their yearly run. With the lake levels returning to normal pool elevation and the water temps slowly rising, fishing is really getting good! I am catching multiple species of bass in both quality and quantity. We have had a great past few days braving the cooler, damp, but good weather conditions thanks to my loyal clients, Jody Barnard and Rowe Waedler! We are catching all 3 species of bass as fishing continues to ramp up for the spring. The lake level as of this post is still about 5-6 foot above normal and all boat ramps are open. The lake is safe to navigate and there isn’t much floating debris left. I have a few open dates left this month and March and April are filling up fast.
