Now this one is pretty advanced yโall! ๐ซ
Here at LFS we donโt usually train FOR stability; we train for strength. ๐ช
But once you get super strong, you need to ensure that not only is proper technique being executed, but that the things that are harder for coaches to see (like internal muscle stability) are also being prioritized. ๐ค
Hence why we had Dan try lifting a barbell with hanging weight plates that can simulate the โshakinessโ of a bamboo/earthquake barbell. ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ
Unlike a regular barbell, a bamboo/earthquake barbell, bends. Meaning the weight shakes as it moves. So if the weight is shaking? ๐ซจ The lifter has to fight not to, ๐
โโ๏ธ by engaging their core and shoulders that much more to make sure the movement stays controlled. ๐โโ๏ธ
So when Dan tries his regular bench again, heโll know how to control the weight better. Because moving a weight with control and proper muscle recruitment >>> means moving a weight safely. ๐ช

Katie has made INCREDIBLE progress this past year ๐ช
โก๏ธ Push-ups from a 9 on the rack to crushing them at the 4 mark (below the knees!)
โก๏ธ More than doubled her bench press from 20 lbs to 50 lbs ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ
โก๏ธ Put in the work with her running and is hitting faster 5Ks than ever before ๐โโ๏ธ๐ฅ
Her journey hasnโt been without challenges, but Katie has handled every setback with patience, determination, and absolutely zero quit ๐
Sheโs learned how to train smart, stay consistent, and keep moving forward ๐
And on top of all that, sheโs an amazing teammate โค๏ธ
Always encouraging others and helping lead the charge (alongside Steph!) for our upcoming LFS Olympics ๐

dixon.52 completed her SECOND half marathon just a couple months apart, taking on the Brooklyn Half and crushing it! ๐ฅ

๐โโ๏ธ completed an incredibly impressive marathon swim of the English Channel this weekend, a massive 10km swim! ๐๐
These two continue to show what consistency, strength, and determination can accomplish โค๏ธ

โจ A Very Belated Welcome to Coach Martie! โจ
Martie has been with us for a few months now and has been absolutely crushing it in sessions ๐ฅ, so itโs definitely time for an official intro ๐
Coach Martie brings an incredible background to LFS as a former collegiate rower and 2x Division I National Champion, with more than 10 years of experience teaching yoga and group fitness classes. ๐ฃโโ๏ธ๐ช๐งโโ๏ธ
As a marathon runner and lifelong athlete, Martie knows firsthand how strength training and movement can build resilience, confidence, and balance both inside and outside the gym. Her coaching style is thoughtful, encouraging, and focused on helping people move well, feel stronger, and push past perceived limits with care and self-awareness.
Sheโs worked with people from all kinds of backgrounds and abilities, and truly believes movement is a huge part of living better.
Outside the gym, you can usually find Martie exploring NYC, checking out live music, visiting museums, going for long walks, or spending time with friends. ๐ถ๐๏ธโ๏ธ

Once upon a time (about a week ago), the coaches of LFS took on the helicopter challenge. ๐
You may or may not remember, but it was mentioned that the fierce Coach Amy thought up another challenge, convinced that the coachesโ core strength deserved a tougher test. ๐บ๐ช
Which brings us here, to the feared, revered, floating plank. ๐ป
The coaches had to anchor their legs on a box, and move from a straight arm plank to holding onto a barbell, which was anchored by another coach. ๐ตโ๐ซ
Core stability was tested. Shoulder stability was tested. Mental WILLPOWER might have been the hardest test of all. ๐ช
Who will fall first??? ๐ซจ

Itโs the start of graduation seasonโฆand LFS has been having some graduations of our own! ๐๐ฉโ๐๐งโ๐๐จโ๐
Just this week, one of our newer members, Mae, graduated to floor push-ups! ๐
Mae was doing her push-ups in the rack, executing well, as usual. A littleโฆtoo well. ๐ง๐คจ
Of course, we want members to keep form throughout the exercise! But coaches can sense when the form is SO good that an
additional challenge might be in order.๐ซฃ
This was one of those cases. And Mae, being the good sport she is, took Coach Morgan up on her challenge to move her push-ups down to the floor. ๐
Mae, being humble, was unsure if it was going to happen, since itโs been a while since sheโs tried them. But with a gentle nudge of encouragement from the coach and the other lovely members in that session, Mae set out to defy gravity! ๐
AND PUMPED OUT 4 PUSH-UPS JUST LIKE THAT! ๐ฑ
Mae, we donโt have a cap and gown to give you, but we are celebrating!!! With floor push-ups in your back pocket, weโve now unlocked a whole new world of workouts! Congrats on the new achievement, and cheers to many more to come!๐โโ๏ธ๐ช
