Bocce Ball Busting Since 1906 It was the birth of the phenomenon we know today as Bocce Ball (at the time it was called Carlo Throw-a-da-Ball).

The History of The Mighty Mudskippers

In 1900 Genoa, Italy a cucumber salesman named Carlo Fellicci Bocce created a game for his simple minded sister, Angela, to play with her children. Bocce emigrated to the US in 1906 when Carlo settled in New York's Lower East Side. Soon, all the urchins, rag-a-muffins and ordinary orphans were playing the cucumber man's game. MUD - The Next Generation. It's hard to believe it's been so long since The Mighty Mudskippers roamed Union Hall courts every Sunday. Yesterday, we brought the girls out (only one pictured here) and saw that an old MUD photo and some of our trophies are still on display. It's also great to see Paul is keeping the league going strong, expanding to four days a week next season, featuring one two-man team league! Nice.

MUD hasn't taken the court in league play since January of 2014, but Steve's moving out to St. Louis today feels like the real end of the era. Best of luck to Steve and his family. MUD generated plenty of happy memories and created friendships that will last a lifetime! GO MUD!

MUD'S LAST STAND! - As five of Mud's seven team members now have children one year old or younger, it's been more and more difficult to field four players each Sunday. For the first time since the opening of UH, the Mudskippers will not take part in the Sunday league this upcoming season. That means the Mudskippers appearance at the Floyd/Union Hall tournament tomorrow looks like it will be the last time on the courts as a team for a while...who knows how long? It would be great to see our bocce friends there. These one set, first to seven point tournaments leave little room for error, but we hope to have a nice last run....we shall see. No matter what, it'll be a fun time. Hope to see you there!

ALMOST PERFECT - After a perfect regular season, MUD made it to the finals but lost it's first match of the season in three sets to AP. Congrats to our opponents and we'd love a rematch at the Floyd / UH tourney in a few weeks! See you there. Thanks Kel for babysitting Sally!

What to go Steve-O! Steve should be on the disabled list, but plays through an injury to help MUD make it through their first playoff match this season! The support of Drury's family and of course MUD babies Penny and Sally didn't hurt either! Looking forward to finals weekend.

Sally is disappointed that MUD didn't go all the way, but knows they'll be back next season!!

Unique MUD lineup for this weekend's playoff...looks like it's Gus, Ted, Michele (of Boccenalia) and Dave Burton! Looking forward to it.
