Focus and dedication are two of the keys to success, but balance is a must.

Be sure to vary your workouts based on your fitness goals. Over time your body adapts to the workouts you do, and this can be discouraging to some people. Challenge yourself with cardio, strength training, circuit training, and yoga to help you break through that plateau. A balanced fitness plan can make a world of a difference.

Let’s throw it back to when I first started my fitness journey...

I started my journey as ‘skinny-fit’. Meaning I was skinny with little muscle definition and a high body fat percentage. This was achieved by focusing on cutting calories ALL the time and light cardio. I spent most of my teen and college years this way until I started struggling with Postpartum Depression after the birth of my son.

Flash forward to today, where my workouts are predominantly weight training with HIIT. I feel solid, happy, healthy and have a happy relationship with food 😊😋. No longer am I prisoner to the numbers on the scale. Instead, I listen to my body and try to find balance in everything I do from work to family, and business.

Please don’t think this happened overnight. It took 5 years or persistence, sweat, and tears to get to where I am now. Find your drive and stick to your personal fitness goals. The end-game may seem far, but you’ll get there faster than you think if you continue to push yourself to be better.

During the week I don’t work out as much as I would like. My weekdays include long commutes, hours in front of a computer ( ), and homework time with my son. This means shorter sessions and fewer reps to avoid that inevitable muscle soreness. Nothing ruins your day like tight hamstrings when you sit all day! 😫

I really give my all into my weekend sessions to start and end my week right. However, I do plan my days accordingly to ensure I stick to my healthy and fitness goals. How do you stay fit through the week?

Prove yourself to YOURSELF and to NO ONE ELSE.

I can’t tell you how many times I started and stopped my fitness journey. Even when others around me would say things like,

You’ve been putting on weight.
You look fluffy!
Are you pregnant?

It still didn’t push me to stick to my fitness plans. The reason was because they weren’t MY fitness plans. I had no desire to push myself to be what others wanted me to be. I honestly couldn’t care less!

It wasn’t until I started doing it for me that it really clicked. I made a commitment to myself to become a healthier mother, wife and friend. It was then my true transformation began.

Do not set your fitness and health goals according to the agenda of others. For you to truly stick to it, you have to do it for yourself.

Fitness update: I’m still a little fluffy and lovin it! 😉

Sometimes it’s hard to be consistent with your goals, because life gets in the way. Just remember that we are all human and the true goal is progress, and not perfection.

Sometimes they’re there and sometimes they aren’t. What am I talking about you ask? My abs!

There was once a time when I believed the visibility of ones abdominal muscles determined their level of fitness. I know... that was a dark time indeed... It wasn’t until I learned more about health and fitness that I realized I was completely wrong.

Bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and not everyone carries weight the same way. Believe it or not, I feel healthier now than when I was 10 lbs lighter. My endurance, strength, power and agility have all increased since I started training with different forms of exercise. I also eat to match my fitness goals so there’s no intense focus on cutting calories. Simply on eating clean.

You have to find the right mix of nutrition and fitness that works for your body, your schedule, and your goals. 2021 is here... How do you plan to make a change?
