The City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) offers high quality recreational opportunities to the citizens of the City of Brownsville. Beginning with the construction of Washington Park in 1919, the City of Brownsville continues to play an important role in the quality of life that Brownsville’s citizens and visitors enjoy. The department is staffed by over 110 full and part time personnel assigned to eight divisions: Parks Division, Recreation Division, Aquatics Division, Brownsville Sports Park, Brownsville Events Center, Brownsville Golf Center, Ringgold Civic Pavilion and the Historic City Cemetery. The department manages 30 parks encompassing over 1,000 acres of parkland, features 23 miles of hike/bike trails, 3 gymnasiums and pools, 50 buildings and structures, over 55 athletics fields, and the newly constructed Catherine Stillman Dog Park. Brownsville PARD has recently become one of the fastest growing Parks and Recreation Departments in the State of Texas and boasts several facilities that have received state recognition. With an increased amount of community volunteers and fund raising events, the department has been able to provide more community outreach. On any given day, city residents and visitors can watch or participate in soccer, baseball, football, softball, mountain biking, golf, volleyball, kickball, swimming.

Please be advised that Lincoln Park (2150 W. University Blvd.) will undergo temporary closures for scheduled maintenance on Thursday, September 24, and Friday, September 25.

⏰ Closure Hours: 5:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Both Days)

From rapid repairs to major field overhauls, your Brownsville Parks and Recreation team is always proud to serve! 🌳✨

Here’s a look at what our team accomplished this week:

🛠️ Facility Care & Rapid Repairs: New pavilion roofs at Dean Porter Park, fresh swings at Prax Orive Park, new exterior paint at the Events Center, and a quick water line fix at Old City Cemetery!

🌿 Trail & Lighting Maintenance: Trail trimming along the Historic Hike and Bike Trails, plus lighting repairs at the Sports Park Dome and Linear Park.

⚾ Field Transformations: Infield regrading, tilling, and home plate installs at Gonzalez Park, plus game-day prep at West Brownsville LL & Morningside Park!

📍 Community Milestones: Unveiled the new Micro-Pantry at Tres Ángeles Park!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us this morning at Tres Ángeles Park for the official unveiling of our new Community Micro Cabinets! 💚📦

Special thanks to Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz and all our community leaders for attending and supporting this vital initiative.

As District Attorney Saenz shared today:

"The strength of our community is measured not only by how we respond during difficult times, but by how willing we are to look out for one another every day... When our community comes together with compassion and generosity, we remind one another that no one has to face hardship alone."

Tres Ángeles Park has long served as a place of remembrance, hope, and healing. Bringing this community-driven pantry model—"Take what you need, leave what you can"—to this space continues that spirit of care and shared support.
