Got some pics out there today… gotta mulch and give them a drink!

Yikes! Well the kids are finally done with sports, so I have some work to do. Got the shade cloth up, but the preen application this spring left a bit to be desired. I pay cash or hostas to anyone that wants to help w**d!! Seriously...

Everything is put to bed here in MN... just a few plants in pots that I need to keep warm a few more weeks to get seeds. First Blush, Dancing in the dark, Lemon Snap... Have a great fall everyone, I'll be back when I start growing seeds!

Sending out some pieces of this guy as bonus plants to auction winners. Stabilized from a streaker in my program. But what to call it? pollen parent was volcano island. Likely tetraploid… I name my plants after songs and bands. Any ideas?
Maybe volcano man from that movie Eurovision. Love that movie…

This huge streaker is really cool. Almost fades to shades of green as the year ends. New growth is bright gold and green. 3 big loaded scapes that have been hand pollinated so this winter should be fun.
Unknown as it was from a bonus pack of seeds from hostaworks…

Hmmm, 15 yards of black dirt/sand might have been a bit much…

This time of year I check on scapes and pods to remove what I don’t plan to grow. case in point, here I have a great streaked breeder, so I follow the scape down to make sure it comes from a nicely streaked eye on the plant. Then, I look at pod set and if I’m luckier yet, I can see these streaked pods which make me very hopeful for the seeds inside to be some future stunners!

Last year, a seedling was settling into three distinct patterns so I split it and planted it close. Here are those three plants, from one streaked seedling. Now, it rarely turns out this nicely. Usually you struggle to keep a streaked portion while it all goes green. This was a stroke of luck… I should add, most likely a tetraploid.

I’m calling this guy ‘Final Countdown’ and it’s my cross of Flemish design x World Cup. Scapes are so beefy they just push the leaves up and out of the way. Deep red pets and rubbery leaves. Lots of fun.
A nice medium/large in year 5.
