Andre Reed could soon receive one of the highest honors in Buffalo Bills history.

According to Jim Kelly, the Bills are working toward retiring Reed’s No. 83 and placing it alongside the franchise’s other retired numbers at the new Highmark Stadium.

“It will. From what I’ve already heard, they’re working on hopefully next year to get it up sooner rather than later,” Kelly said at the Jim Kelly Celebrity Classic.

Reed spent 15 seasons in Buffalo and remains the franchise’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Retiring No. 83 would reunite him with fellow Hall of Fame teammates Kelly, Thurman Thomas and Bruce Smith, whose Nos. 12, 34 and 78 have already been retired by the organization.

Before the Bills ever left the city, they played in a concrete horseshoe on Buffalo's East Side that everybody just called the Rockpile. 🏈 War Memorial Stadium opened in 1937 and hosted the Bills from their earliest AAFC days in 1938 all the way through 1972, plus decades of Buffalo Bisons baseball before that.

Fans packed in tight on hard concrete benches, the stands practically shaking when the crowd got loud on a cold October Sunday. 🧣 It wasn't fancy, but it was loud, packed, and completely ours.

The Rockpile even had its own Hollywood moment, standing in as the fictional ballpark in the 1984 film The Natural. 🎬 Long before glossy new stadiums, this is where Buffalo sports history really got its start.
