Audition Details:

Who can participate?
🩰 Ages 4–15
🩰 Must have 2+ years of dance experience

What to prepare:
✨ A 2-minute dance solo
✨ A short (2-paragraph) introduction answering:
• Why do you love to dance?
• What does community mean to you?

✨ Buffalo City Ballet at the Black Doll Exhibit ✨

This past weekend was packed, from the Black Doll Exhibit to our Art in Motion event. We were honored to be apart of the 7th Annual Black Doll Exhibit at the Buffalo Museum of Science. Thank you to Senator April N.M. Baskin for hosting and to curator Lisa Jacobs-Watson for creating a space where Black history, representation, and imagination are celebrated.

This year’s theme, “Through the Eyes of Black Dolls: Our History Will Not Be Erased,” also reflects our work as artists and educators at the studio. Like Black dolls, our dancers affirm identity and claim space through movement and presence.

Sharing this moment with Lisa Jacobs-Watson and our Buffalo City Ballet dancers made the weekend even more meaningful. 🩰🖤

✨ We’re looking forward to an exciting month ahead at Buffalo City Ballet! ✨

Tonight at 7PM, join us as we celebrate National Ballet Day with an evening of beautiful dance, networking & refreshments in our new gallery🩰

We will close out Black History Month with our Annual Black History Month Concerts, honoring culture, history, and excellence through dance.

This Black History Month hits different! Since being founded in 1976 we’ve operated on the belief that every child deserves access to classical ballet, regardless of background. For 55 years, we have challenged traditional perceptions of ballet by creating a space where Black dancers are seen, valued, and empowered in an art form where representation has not always existed.

Our studio is more than a place to dance. It’s a place where history lives on the walls, confidence is built in the studio, and young people are encouraged to dream big, work hard, and see themselves on stages where they were once an afterthought.

As we celebrate this milestone year, we invite families to become part of our legacy. Whether your child is just beginning or already passionate about dance, Buffalo City Ballet is a welcoming, inclusive community where artistry, discipline, and diversity thrive.
