Process rejection without losing confidence
Process Rejection Without Losing Confidence
Rejection is inevitable for athletes pursuing competitive dreams. The difference between those who succeed and those who don't often comes down to how they process setbacks mentally.
Understand Rejection as Information, Not Identity
When you face rejection, separate the outcome from your worth as a person and athlete. A coach's decision, a failed tryout, or being cut from a team reflects a specific situation, not your total value or potential. Ask yourself: What can this rejection teach me?
Was it a skill gap you can address?
Was it timing or circumstances beyond your control?
Was it a mismatch between you and that particular opportunity?
The Confidence Framework After Rejection
Maintain confidence by focusing on what you can control:
Acknowledge the emotion. Allow yourself to feel disappointment without judgment. Pushing emotions away often makes them stronger.
Set a processing deadline. Give yourself a specific time to feel the rejection, then shift to action. (Example: "I'll process this for 24 hours, then develop my response.")
Identify one actionable step. What one thing can you improve or try differently? This rebuilds agency.
Remember your track record. Recall times you overcame obstacles or performed well. Rejection is one data point, not your entire story.
Build Rejection Resilience
Athletes with strong confidence don't avoid rejection, they expect it as part of the journey. Reframe rejection as evidence that you're challenging yourself at the right level. If you're never rejected, you may not be pushing hard enough.
Key principle: Confidence comes from knowing you can handle difficulty, not from avoiding it.

It’s only one way to succeed.
This set is really good because it engages the core as well. Give it a shot. Let me know your thoughts.
BACK FROM THE DEAD AT MSG.
The just pulled off the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history — down 29, win 107-106 over San Antonio in Game 4 on June 10 at the Garden. hit the game-winner with 1.2 left, dropped 36-5-7.
But for me — I’m not saying he’s OG or Brunson or Hart or Towns — I’m saying young players, WATCH AND LEARN.
Jose Alvarado, the Brooklyn kid the Knicks picked up midseason, gave us all 8 POINTS, 3 ASSISTS, 2 REBOUNDS in the final 10 minutes. Plus-11 in his stint, hitting back-to-back threes to cut it to five, then to four, when the Garden was shaking.
That’s not flash. That’s value. That’s a champion’s poise off the bench. He proved it last night. He proved it last night.
Knicks up 3-1. One more.
