At Kin-Tora's Suenaka-ha Tetsugaku-ho Aikido, which means "Suenaka style, philosophical way", equal emphasis is placed on physical and personal betterment.

Suenaka Sensei incorporates all of O'Sensei's teachings in his style, combined with his extensive experience in real world self-defense. The result is a martial art that is "street effective" yet respectful of all living things, conducted in a dynamic, joyful and welcoming atmosphere, without conflict or machismo. It is an amazing club, with amazing classes and instructors!

2016 - Roy Suenaka Sensei with Shihan’s Mike Hawley and Chad Taylor

It has been a while since we have posted on our page. Aikido classes in Buffalo continue at KinTora. Summer camp at Cheraw State Park in South Carolina resumed this year after a Covid hiatus.
And here in Buffalo we had a surprise virtual test for Shihan Mike Hawley! We connected with Shihan Chad Taylor, and he had Hawley Shihan give some demonstrations. Hawley Shihan has been practicing Suenaka-ha Tetsugaku-ho style of aikido for over 30 years.
He has been promoted to 7th degree black belt or Nanadan. We all congratulate him on this accomplishment. We know Suenaka Sensei would be so pleased.

Aikido classes have resumed! Our classes will be on the mats on the second floor (lots of air and light). Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-7:00. Saturdays at 9:00am.
Must be vaccinated. Hope to see you there

The Buffalo Suenaka Wadokai Dojo at KinTora remembered Sensei today with a short class, memories shared, prayers given, and a spaghetti lunch. We miss you Sensei, but will continue to pass on your teachings of Aikido and love.

Suenaka Memorial Donation organized by Chad Taylor 02/15/2020

It is with the deepest sorrow that I have to announce that Sensei passed away on February 8, 2020, at 7:59am, after a short illness. He was at home surrounded by family and an abundance of love. Rest in peace, Sensei. We all love you so much. Thank you to everyone who reached out to express their condolences, feasted in Sensei's honor, shared personal memories, or are just grieving in silence. We all share the loss of a great man and a profound influence in our lives. Sensei has said numerous times that he loves you all very much and is so proud of his extended family. There is a memorial service at the Hombu Dojo in Charleston on February 23rd. Not everyone will be able to attend. He felt like Buffalo was his second home. You all have touched Sensei just as Sensei has touched all of us. We are all blessed to part of Sensei's Ohana, and I know Sensei felt blessed to have you all in his Ohana.

We will hold a memorial service in Sensei's honor on Sunday, March 8th at the Kintora Dojo. 1827 Niagara St. Buffalo, NY 14207 at 11:00am. As practicing martial artists, it would be appropriate to wear a gi. There will be a short class for anyone wishing. Non-practicing guests are not required to do so, and all are welcome to attend. It will be followed by a spaghetti lunch (Sensei's favorite) and a sharing of stories.

If you should want to make a donation, I would suggest making a donation to the family. As trying a time as this is for the family emotionally, it will also be so financially. If you do wish to make a donation, you may mail a check, or use the GoFundMe link. This will allow you to use credit/debit cards. The link is:

There's no obligation or pressure to donate, but I'm sure the family would greatly appreciate the gesture. Judy Grundy Shihan will also collect cash or checks and mail them to the family.
