Last night at Sullivan Park the older crew took to the field vs the 16u/18u Southern Tier Lightning and came away with a 14-3 victory. Despite being tired and a bit banged up from the long weekend, this team played hard once again and Mya Raley led the offensively with three hits, 2-rbi's and one run scored while Leah Johnson collected two hits of her own, 2-runs and 2-rbi. Grace Cornell had a bases loaded triple in the third inning and scored three runs while Savannah Beaudette also had a triple plating two runs and later scoring as well. Amileah Muhisin and Kailyn Rigerman both scored two runs while Peyton Comstock, Kelcie Songster and Hannah Bauder each scored once. Mackenzie Leigh Johnson also contributed offensively with an RBI in the third which saw 15 batters come to plate and 11 runs scored turning a 2-1 deficit into a 12-3 lead.
Savannah Beaudette was steady in the circle as she recorded 5-k's in six innings of work and her defense played flawlessly with no errors. Peyton Comstock was apart of nine outs at her second base and shortstop positions Peyton and Grace Cornell had two great chances at turning double plays but we're just short as the Lightning displayed great hustle throughout. Kelcie Songster and Amileah were solid at third and first base as well. Lastly, Mackenzie Leigh Johnson and Karissa Keller did a great job behind the plate in support of Savannah as the team (sponsored by Chaffee Chick Design and Coops Red Caboose) improved to 23-16 overall with just a couple weeks remaining in the season. The teams next game is tonight vs the 18u Hamburg Dawgs at Sullivan Park (6:15pm). Great job ladies and good luck.

Back at it!!

Yesterday was a long day for sure but a rewarding one as it seemed like a mirror image of a day in some ways from pool play as the 16u Cardinal FastPitch team ultimately faced the same three teams it faced in pool Friday and Saturday. In pool play the defeated Cayuga 7-0 on Friday night, but didn't really play that well and then on Saturday lost on a walk-off to Elite Softball 5-4 and then were destroyed by a very good Lady Chaos team 14-1. That left the Cardinals (who are sponsored by Chaffee Chick Design and Coops Red Caboose) at 1-2 and the #4 seed as Sunday began at 10am vs Cayuga once again, but this time it seemed different as the team pounded out 13 hits in an 11-1 run rule victory. The 13 hits eclipsed the twelve total they had for pool play in three games and things felt different for sure. Tessa Dominesey (birthday girl 🎊) led the way with three of them followed by two apiece from Leah Johnson, Peyton Comstock, Kailyn Rigerman and Kelcie Songster. Hannah Baider and Grace Cornell added the others with an RBI each. Scoring were Leah with three, Tessa and Grace with two, while Peyton, Kelcie, Amileah and Kaitlyn all scored once.
Grace Cornell did a great job in the circle (4 k's) but her defense was flawless as Kelcie, Tessa and Leah Johnson each made multiple plays in support of Grace. Peyton and Grace herself also shutout down any opportunities the Cascades may have had and Mackenzie Leigh Johnson did a great job behind the plate for Grace as well as the Cardinals moved on to face the #1 seed Lady Chaos in a rematch of Saturday.
That mirror I spoke of showed itself in the first inning as the Lady Chaos and it's powerful offense struck for three runs off starter Tessa Dominesey, taking a 3-1 lead. The lead was also built due to three errors in the field, but two strikeouts cut the damage as seemed to have given Tessa confidence as not another run would cross the plate for the Chaos until the fifth inning. During that time, the Cardinals went on an offensive explosion as Leah Johnson scored three times in total as the Chaos had no answer for her in the box or base pads. Leah also had two hits and three RBI as well. Her sister Mackenzie Leigh reached base all three times and scored twice herself as the lead seemed out of reach as Tessa had accumulated 7-k's when the fifth inning hit. In that inning the Chaos scored and lucky run at the plate but was thrown out at second base by Peyton Comstock to stop the damage as well as another strikeout and a great catch in center field by Kelcie Songster as the score stood at 10-4 heading into the sixth inning with time a factor.
Getting back to the offense, Mya Raley had two hits, 3 RBI and a run scored which was huge at the time but not bigger that Amileah Muhisins monster bases clearing triple 2-run triple. Grace also had two hits and an RBI, while Hannah, Peyton, Tessa each had one. Rounding out the scoring for the Cardinals were Grace, Kelcie, Amileah and Hannah Bauder. Tessa would get into a bases loaded jam in the sixth, which was the final threat, but two more strikeouts and an appeal out by Grace Cornell sent the Cardinals to the finals with a 10-4 win. The two k's gave Tessa 10 for the game who mixed pitches perfectly and confidently throughout. What a huge victory beating such a quality team and great bunch of coaches and the girls were onto face another rematch challenge in the Elite team coming off a huge comeback win if there own in the semi's.
In the Finals, the Cardinals left no doubt that pool play was a fluke, scoring six runs in the first inning by Grace Cornell, Leah Johnson, Mya Raley, Hannah Bauder, Peyton Comstock and Tessa Dominesey. Kelcie Songster and McKenzie Leah Johnson had RBI's as did Mya and Tessa giving the Cardinals a 6-0 lead. Grace Cornell was back in the circle and gave one back in the first, but her defense allowed no more. Leah With a grab in Center field, and Mya Raley with a great line drive grab at third throwing to Hannah Bauder at first base for a double play killed any rally the Elite thought they had.
The score stayed that way as the defense continued to shine with Grace, Mya and Tessa all making plays keeping Elite off the scoreboard in the second. In the third, the offense struck again as Peyton (single) Tessa (single) and Kelcie all crossed the plate extending the lead to 9-1. Mackenzie Leigh had an RBI single and Amileaeh Muhisin added an RBI groundout as the lead grew. In the bottom of the third, Grace recorded her only strikeout of the game along with a great play in the circle to again keep Elite off the board. Tessa added another great play at shortstop as well.
The fourth inning brought about five runs and a lead of 14-1 as Mya, Hannah, Peyton, Kelcie and Amileah all scored to create a lead to big to overcome. Amileah added another big hit as her 2-run double was huge as Tessa and Grace also chipped in with an RBI's of their own as the championship was one inning away. Again, the opposition made things interesting as the first two batters reached base but, Maya Raley again snagged a line drive as did Mackenzie Leigh in right field keeping the runners out and then the final out, fittingly enough, a comebacker to Grace as the championship was theirs in run rule fassion 14-1. What a game and what a day as the team outscored their opponents 35-6 and collected 34 hits as well en route to their first championship of the 2026 season. Be proud ladies as championships are hard to come by and your hard work and commitment to each other was commendable during the hot and smoky weekend. We would like to thank Cayuga for hosting a well run tournament with raked and lined fields and a director who did a great job communicating the rules, not changing them as some choose to do. The weekend also seen the teams record improve to 22-16 with two weeks remaining.
The team doesn't have much time to rest as they will be back on the field tonight vs the Southern Tier Lightning and again tomorrow vs the Hamburg Dawgs both at Sullivan Park and 6:15pm starts. So come on down and congratulate our recent championship team. Great job ladies and Go-FastPitch-Go!!

Today in Niagara Falls the 16u Cardinal FastPitch team dropped a pair vs Elite 5-4 and Lady Chaos 14-1. In Game #1 vs Elite, the Cardinals were down 2-0 heading into the fifth as Tessa Dominesey had 7 k's keeping things close, before Mya Raley and Hannah Bauder both scored off a Peyton Comstock 2-run single to tie things at 2-2. Then Grace Cornell and Leah Johnson both scored in the sixth off the bat of Mya Raleys 2-run single to put the Cardinals up 4-2.
The lead was short lived as Elite scored a come from behind victory in the bottom of the sixth 5-4 as Tessa ended the game with 10 strikeouts. Peyton Comstock threw a runner out at third while Kelcie Songster made a great catch on center field in the second and Mackenzie Leigh Johnson had a great play at second base as well. The loss dropped the team (who is sponsored by Chaffee Chick Design and Coops Red Caboose) to 1-1 with a matchup vs the Lady Chaos who was looking to evenge a loss to the Cardinals a year earlier in Webster and they did just that as they scored a decisive 14-1.
Grace Cornell and Mackenzie Leigh Johnson combined for just 4-k's as they weren't helped at all as only (5) pitches were called a strike for the game 😲. This forced them pitch closer than usual and resulted in 17 hits for Chaos. The Lady Chaos were very disciplined at the plate and hammered the ball from start to finish as they ended pool play as the #1 seed and well deserved.
For the Cardinals, Leah Johnson scored the lone run and had one of three hits as the Chaos were much too powerful on this day. Mackenzie Leigh and Peyton collected the others but we're both left stranded. The loss dropped the Cardinals to the #4 seed heading into Sunday's matchup vs the Cayuga Cascades (10am) and 19-16 for the season. Good luck tomorrow!!

The 16u squad (sponsored by Chaffee Chick Design and Coops Red Caboose) started the Cayuga Classic with a 7-0 win over the host Cayuga Cascades behind the 12 strikeout performance of Tessa Dominesey . Tessa was aided by Peyton Comstock, Karissa Keller and Mackenzie Leigh Johnson who all shared time behind the plate.
Scoring for the Cardinals were Grace Cornell, Leah Johnson (2 runs), Kelcie Songster,, Mackenzie Leigh Johnson and. Tessa Dominesey. Amileah Muhisin had a huge 2-run triple in the first and Hannah Bauder added a 2-run single. Kailyn Rigerman reached base all three times but was unable to score. Tomorrow the Lady Chaos and Elite Softball will be the opponents if the weather cooperates.
