Think barrel racing is just about being the fastest? There’s a little more to it.
• Knock over a barrel = 5-second penalty
• The fastest horse doesn’t always win. Tight, efficient turns save very valuable time.
• Horses learn to “rate,” meaning they begin slowing and collecting themselves before the turn.
• Too wide wastes time. Too tight risks a barrel. The goal is finding that perfect line at full speed.
Next time the barrels are running at Tejas, watch the turns, not just the clock. Those tiny details can make or break a run. 🤠
