Maybe this was payback for this current thruster cycle? Or maybe we just like being carried around the gym 🤷‍♀️

When you first started working out, was this your instinct too? What “bad” advice would you give a beginner?

Failing my cleans since 2018…

Was I embarrassed? No.
Did this stop me from trying again? No.
Is this a weight that now I can easily clean with no problem? Also no.

But that’s ok! I didn’t start here because I wanted to be an Olympic weight-lifter, or go to the crossfit games. I started because I wanted to know what it might feel like to be strong, and capable, and do pull-ups. (it feels great, btw)

I’ve been coming to High Voltage for a long time and I am still not the strongest or fastest person here, but I don’t care. I am only competing against myself. (And sometimes Lori. But I always lose to her, so that doesn’t count)

I’m over 40 now, and the internet tells me that if I stop lifting weights I will crumble into a pile of geriatric bone dust. Thankfully I love it here, I love lifting weights, and I find it genuinely fun, so it doesn’t feel like a chore. It’s something I look forward to doing.

Will I fail a clean so hard I eat it again? Maybe.
Will I capture it on camera? I hope so.
Will I come back the next day and try again. Absolutely. (Unless it’s snatches, bc then I might be busy that day)
