The Perfection vs. Bravery Gap.

The core struggle is a fundamental difference in how we raise children: girls are taught to be perfect, while boys are taught to be brave. This setup is a recipe for anxiety. When you strive for perfection, you become afraid to fail, which stops you from taking risks. On top of this, there is a massive gender data gap in medical research. Because most health studies focus on men, women often grow up not fully understanding or trusting their own bodies. This lack of information makes it even harder to feel confident in your own skin.

The solution is found in the culture of sports. You don't have to be the best athlete to benefit; you just have to participate. Sports teach you to trust your body and embrace the "messy" process of trying, failing, and trying again. It moves you away from the need to be perfect and toward the habit of being brave. The practical skill is learning how to make a decision, live with the result, and move on. This resilience is exactly what you need to navigate life outside the gym or the field.

Building this mindset is a direct path to personal power. It is no coincidence that 94% of women in C-suite roles (top executives) identify as athletes. Sports provide a training ground for leadership and decision-making. When you compete, you learn how to lead a team and how to handle pressure. This experience ensures the next generation of women is ready to take up space in high-level positions. Choosing to be active is one of the most effective ways to build the confidence required to reach the top.

Another women’s college program on the horizon!

Juniata College is thrilled to announce the return of men’s wrestling and the launch of women’s wrestling, expanding our varsity athletics to 26 sports. This is an exciting moment for our campus community and a big step forward in creating new opportunities for student-athletes.

We’re beginning a national search for a head coach immediately, with both programs set to compete in Fall 2027 as members of the Landmark Conference. Wrestling’s return brings back a proud tradition while opening the door to an exciting new era for Juniata athletics.

Congratulations to Anastasia Manchester for being named a Butler County All-Star!
Monica Osborne also received an honorable mention.
Awesome, ladies!

“It was the third straight year that Hannah wrestled at states, so it was a historic season and career,” SV assistant coach Caden Leighty said. “This year, she relied a lot on technique, didn't panic and just let the match come to her.”
