I realized I haven’t done one of these in a while!
So, hi! I am Kara Ann and I am a country line dance instructor! I live in northwest NJ and have been a lifelong dancer and teacher. I have been certified in Country Fusion line dance fitness for 10 years. I also teach line dancing at restaurants and bars, for public and private events including clubhouses, weddings, parties, fundraisers, schools, and town festivals. I love working with live bands and DJs, too. I am fully insured and certified in CPR. I can also provide my own sound equipment as needed.
I have quite the background that led me to this business venture. I studied ballet, pointe, tap, modern, etc. for decades and learned ballroom and taught partner swing dance in college. Then, country line dancing sort of found me after that when I met Elizabeth with Country Fusion! I immediately fell in love with the entire lifestyle and became one of the first instructors of the workout 10 years ago and started teaching line dance. I also taught elementary school for over 10 years before staying home with my own babies, so I have the patience and training for breaking down dance steps.
I love line dancing because it’s a great way to make friends, you don’t need a dance partner to have a good time, and it can be a great workout! I am passionate about bringing the love of this hobby, and lifestyle, to others. Line dance has enriched my life over the years and I get excited to share that with others.
Recently, I tapped into my background studying and teaching social partner dance and got certified to teach partner country two step and country swing with Country Fusion! I am elated to share my love of lead/follow social dancing and pioneer bringing more two step and country swing to this area of New Jersey!
Let me know if you would like to work with me to bring line dance, country partner dance, or Country Fusion to your event, venue, or business!

After 4 weeks of lessons, my hubby is looking pretty good dancing country swing🥰 Whenever people ask me why he doesn’t come out line dancing much, I honestly and simply put that it was never something he was interested learning how to do. I am totally comfortable with that! He is a drummer and instruments were never my thing either. Plus we ski together! 🤗
However, he was very interested in learning how to dance WITH me! I love any kind of swing dancing because I love its upbeat nature, the bounce to the steps, and revel in the spontaneity and surprise of linking moves together. Partner line dance is fun too, but I don’t enjoy it as much because the footwork is still predictable.
Country swing relies on a lead/follow connection which I consider a valuable lifelong skill anyone should spend time learning to approach any social and ballroom dance style. Once you have it down, it’s easier to learn any partner dance style after that. Also, I find country swing’s learning curve rather quick. You can get the timing, beat, footwork, and moves down fast to start looking great on the dance floor in no time (as you can see!).
I start another round of beginner lessons in two step and country swing on June 8. You don’t need any prior dance experience or a partner to attend! Just come as you are and I will take it from there. Grab some moves to look good dancing at all your summer and fall weddings coming up! Sign up ASAP!

On June 8, I am starting my next series of Monday night classes with Byram Rec at the Firehouse in town. Country Fusion for Kids from 6:00-7:00 will be line dancing lessons for ages 8-15. Adult line dance lessons (beginner friendly) will be from 7:00-8:00. Then 8:00-9:00 will be partner two step and country swing dance lessons (beginner friendly and no partner necessary!).
TGIF is rated as a high intermediate level line dance, prior to adding in the recently tweaked choreography of turns in the second section of 8-count that make the dance so flashy (and fun!). Of course, that means this 32-count hustle style line dance is all the more challenging to the song “Greenlight” than its predecessor N’SYNC song. Between the pace of the music, the unusual rhythm, and its multiple turns, TGIF is a fan favorite, but a tricky dance to conquer on the floor.
The other night I had a great crew of ladies that came out for a good time to learn this line dance. I don’t have a lot of footage of how hard they worked to get the footwork and turns down mainly just because we were so focused on practicing it! But it was a committed group!
A little “follow the crowd/go with the flow” mentality is helpful when practicing a dance like this on the floor (just don’t bump into anyone!). Even if you’re a beat behind everyone, you are learning in real time when and how to turn with others around you which is critical with TGIF.
By the end of the lesson, many of them had it down! Had a lot of fun seeing some old & new faces this time and looking forward to doing another dance next month! I will post a flyer soon with the details. In the meantime, share any requests with me! I have a running list of more intermediate/advanced line dances that I want to teach at these workshops!

So true. Those confident dancers out on the floor all started somewhere, fighting through the uncomfortable parts of learning a dance, to get to that point. It takes time and courage to get yourself out there to reach your line dance goals.
