I was asked for advice for a kid who just made his first travel team. I said this. Pile on the advice, if you have more that matters.
The lead runner, often, assumes the play is behind them, so they "round & see the throw." On defense, understand that & make it a "whoops!"

Sorry for the F, but this is the mental difference-maker.
"I did" beats "I'm gonna" every single time.

Honestly, I'm not a little bit sorry.
Excuses & Ex*****on are NOT the same. Become the best you can be for your team, or step out of the mix. There is no Plan C.
I can't get in trouble for what I don't say. Repeat & Repeat & Repeat.
The end might change your story.

I know travel SB pitchers & catchers who are turning down invitations to try out. I know really good position players who are looking for opportunities to make a team for next year. If you don't pitch or catch, your bat, arm and/or speed need to impress. P's & C's chose the work harder route early. Work harder on the skills everyone works on.

Spray charts can be a valuable reference for coaches, pitchers & catchers to pick up on a hitter's tendencies & formulate a plan to attack them. Green = hits. Red = outs. The most valuable part of a spraychart is WHERE does the hitter hit the most balls. Tendencies 100% tell you how to attack them. When the spray chart doesn't give you what you hoped for ... that's what's up, as a hitter. How do you pitch to or defend this? Left-to-right is Fr/So/Jr

Parents will feel this dichotomy with me. "Litle bit" did her best & her team went 0-2-1. "Big Baby" couldnt play at all, but she was there for her team & soaked in lessons that 99% don't know to pay attention to. It was a good day, beyond what "normal" people saw.
