A fully locked-out armbar.
To someone outside of BJJ, this might look like a moment where someone is about to get hurt. To us, it represents something different: trust.
We can train hard. We can push each other to our limits. We can attack submissions with intensity — without trying to hurt the person we're training with.
Because the person across from you isn't your enemy. They're your training partner. The reason you get better.
A good training partner knows how to apply pressure, control the position, and give their partner enough time to recognize the submission and tap.
That trust is what allows us to train at a high intensity day after day without turning every round into a fight for survival.
The goal isn't to hurt each other.
The goal is to make each other better.
