Shams: Kevin Durant trade could happen in next few days (1:35)
ESPN
Jun 15, 2025, 02:10 PM ET
The NBA Finals may be in full swing and the draft is on the horizon on June 25-26, but the NBA offseason has already started stealing the headlines.
Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant has been the source of trade rumblings throughout the spring. The MVP could be the biggest domino to fall, which will help determine the offseason landscape. Teams around the league are also keeping an eye on another former MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and his future with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Elsewhere, the New York Knicks are still looking for a head coach, and the Boston Celtics are trying to figure out how to navigate their roster now that Jayson Tatum will miss a good portion of next season.
The Memphis Grizzlies and Orlando Magic kicked the trade season off Sunday with a multiplayer, multipick deal. Desmond Bane is headed to Orlando for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four future first-round picks and a future first-round pick swap.
Our NBA insiders will be tracking the latest signings, buzz, news and intel throughout the summer, so stay tuned as we report on the biggest moves that will shape the league.

Kevin Durant doesn’t get the respect he deserves—and it’s embarrassing.
Every time KD’s name comes up, people are quick to say “he joined a superteam” or “he’s soft.” But let’s be honest: if any other player dropped 30+ in the Finals back-to-back and locked down LeBron in key moments, y’all would be calling him the GOAT.
KD is the most pure, efficient, cold-blooded scorer the game has ever seen. Not Steph, not LeBron, not Kobe—KD. He’s 7 feet tall, handles like a guard, and hits contested shots like he's playing 2K on rookie. He made the NBA look too easy, and that’s why people hate him.
Let’s talk facts:
2x Finals MVP
4x scoring champ
Gold medalist
Top 10 all-time in scoring (and climbing)
AND he came back from an Achilles tear better than ever
Y’all praise players for being “loyal” and “gritty,” but when KD made a business decision to win, he became the villain? Newsflash: He wasn’t carried. He was the killer.
If KD had the media’s love like Steph or the mythos like MJ, this wouldn’t even be a debate.
Kevin Durant is the most disrespected superstar of our era—and it’s time that stopped.
Change my mind.

LeBron James is the GOAT, and it’s not even close.
I get it—MJ fans are fuming already. But let’s be real: If you swap LeBron and Jordan, does MJ drag those Cavs teams to 8 straight Finals? Does he dominate at age 39 like LeBron is right now? No. Jordan had Phil Jackson, Scottie Pippen, and a superteam before superteams were a thing.
LeBron? He carried weak rosters, shattered every expectation, and still dominates an era way more competitive than Jordan’s. The man is top 5 in points, assists, and steals, has four rings in four different styles, and has beaten the so-called "GOAT" franchise in the Finals.
MJ fans talk about “killer instinct.” But let’s not forget—Jordan got bounced in the first round THREE TIMES before Pippen. LeBron took a scrub Cavs team to the Finals at 22.
Haters will say, “Rings matter.” Cool, so is Bill Russell (11 rings) better than Jordan? Thought so.
The truth is, people hate LeBron because he didn’t follow the script. He became the King his way. And that’s why he’s the greatest to ever do it. Period.
Debate me.

Does interim coach Tuomas Lisalo, who used similar concepts in a more pick-and-roll-heavy system at Paris Basketball last season and Telekom Baskets Bonn before that, have a chance to stick around past this season? Can he guide them through the tough stretch of schedule that is directly in front of them? (After the Lakers visit Memphis, the Boston Celtics will be there on Monday, the Golden State Warriors the next night.) I am curious to find out. This late in the season, though, there is no perfect analog for the situation he's walking into

Kevin Durant is the most disrespected superstar in NBA history. People love to call him a ‘bus rider’ because of Golden State, but let’s be real—KD was the best player on that team and outplayed LeBron James in back-to-back Finals. His game is pure art—a 7-footer with the smoothest jumper, elite handles, and unstoppable scoring ability. Yet, because he doesn’t play the media’s game, he gets more hate than respect. If we’re talking about pure basketball skill, Durant is easily one of the greatest to ever touch a basketball. It’s time people start appreciating his greatness before it’s too late!"

Giannis Antetokounmpo is dealing with right patella tendinopathy but is probable to play against the Phoenix Suns on March 24, 2025. He has been managing similar knee issues recently, but he has played in 57 games this season, missing 15 games due to various injuries.
Giannis is averaging 30.0 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game this season. In his absence, players like Pat Connaughton and Kyle Kuzma may see more action, especially at the power forward position. Giannis has scored 18 or more points in 30 consecutive games and has grabbed 6 or more rebounds in 47 straight games.
