Taxing Land Could Fund New York City's New Subway Lines 06/25/2026

"When a city builds a new subway line, property values go up. So why not ask the adjacent private landowners to help pay for the projects that are creating so much wealth?"

Today in a Vital City op-ed, Senior Fellow Anthony Flint and Chief Program Officer Enrique Silva explain how cities and states can use value capture & the land value tax to fund transit. Read their piece to learn how cities from ancient Rome to Bogotá to London ensure that public action generates public benefit—and how New York City could join them:

Last week at the 2026 National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) Conference, the Lincoln Institute's Amy Cotter and Daniela Faria led a plenary session on climate mobility, highlighting how exploratory scenario planning (XSP) can help regions prepare for climate-driven population shifts. They also facilitated a hands-on XSP workshop, engaging regional leaders to explore how to navigate uncertainty and plan for resilient futures.

Thank you to NARC and everyone who joined these conversations! Building adaptable regions starts with this kind of collaboration.
