I have a problem with gratitude when it starts sounding like “just focus on the positive.”

Yeah…no. This is not how our own human emotion works.

You can be fantastically grateful for your life and still be pi**ed off about parts of it. You can appreciate what you have and want something to change. That doesn’t have to make you ungrateful. And, sometimes…Things. Just. Suck. We don’t need to stamp the word “gratitude” over them and pretend otherwise.

I’d argue gratitude means more when it’s honest. I believe it is being able to say, “This is really freaking hard right now, but it’s not all that’s here.”

What’s good in your life right now, even if everything isn’t?

So what? I increased the surface area.

Cold CAN be useful when something hurts. But, probably not like this.

Applying cold to a sore or irritated area lowers local tissue temperature and can temporarily slow sensory nerve conduction. That can increase pain threshold and decrease how strongly pain is PERCEIVED.

That’s an important distinction. Feeling better after icing does NOT necessarily mean the tissue has healed faster or that we have effectively “shut down inflammation.” It means we have changed the way the nervous system is processing the painful stimulus.

For all intents and purposes, localized cold can be a useful tool for short-term symptom management when something on our body is sore or irritated.

I simply chose a…slightly more…comprehensive application method.
