Jaysi stands out when she comes into the gym with an impressive, high-energy mix of movement, stretching and positive Aloha Island spirit.
She says, "I started my fitness journey because I was actually planning to join the Army. I had an unexpected pregnancy when I was 32. I learned that I was pregnant at my going-away party for the Army. It was actually just 3 days before I would have shipped out. I experienced an emergency C-section. That was the beginning of me knowing that I wanted to find my perfect fitness level and my health even though I wasn't going to be able to join the Army."
What inspired her high energy workout?
"Being an older single mother, the app that I use is actually called FitMom. I just found it one day surfing the internet looking for different ways to gain fitness results while at home. It's something that you can do in any space. All you need is about the space of a yoga mat and a pair of dumbbells, and you can get the results that you're looking for."
How has this helped her?
"In the span of about 4 years, I have lost over 100 lbs. It's helped me in every way - emotionally, physically; it's a huge stress reliever. I just get to leave my outside stressors when I walk through the gym door. Back in 2018, my only brother was killed on his motorcycle. It was very tragic, very unexpected. We're originally from Hawaii, and he was living in Hawaii. One of our very last conversations together, he was being an older brother, and he was like, 'You know, J, you're beautiful, and you're this and that. But you're fat.' And I was so upset. He said, 'You're not going to find what you're looking for in a partner unless you do something about this.' And he wasn't wrong; it was hard words to hear at the moment, but after he passed, you know, those words really resonated with me.
There's actually a song and music video by a reggae band called The Green out of Hawaii. The song is called "I Will". My brother was telling me, 'Do you listen to The Green? Have you really listened?' When he passed, the first thing I did was go to YouTube and typed in The Green and the song "I Will" popped up, and it was the first time I'd ever heard it. That song is about a fitness journey with a beautiful woman. And as I watched the video, I realized that my brother was in the video. So that was like, oh my gosh. This is him speaking to me still from the other side. I looked down at my brand new pair of shoes that I had bought to start working out, and I looked at the tongue of the shoes, and it said I WILL. So, I will never falter."
Jaysi, your Snap Fam is so proud of you for all that you've accomplished, and we know your brother is so proud of you, too! 💚🌈🌴🌊
