🔥 Fire Prevention Week | October 4–10 🔋

This week, Campbell County Fire Department is joining fire departments across the country in recognizing Fire Prevention Week.

The 2026 theme is:

“Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower™”

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day—from phones and tablets to power tools, e-bikes, toys, and other rechargeable equipment. When batteries or chargers are damaged, improperly used, or left charging in unsafe locations, they can create a serious fire hazard. (NFPA⁠)

CCFD encourages everyone to practice safe charging:

• Use the charger designed or approved for your device.
• Charge devices on a hard, stable surface—not on a bed, couch, or other soft material.
• Unplug devices once they are fully charged.
• Stop using batteries that are swollen, damaged, unusually hot, leaking, or giving off an unusual odor.
• Purchase batteries, chargers, and devices that have been tested and listed by a recognized testing laboratory.
• Keep charging devices away from exits and other areas needed to escape during a fire.

Fire prevention starts with the everyday choices we make at home, at work, and in our community.

Take a few minutes this Fire Prevention Week to look around your home and make sure you and your family are charging safely.

From July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2025, more than 28% of the City's Optional 1% allocation has been spent directly on public safety in our community. City 1% funds have allowed the Fire Department to purchase critical vehicles, including a new rescue truck, three command vehicles, and a water tender truck. In recent years, 1% funds have also been used to acquire critical Fire Department equipment, including a lifesaving CPR device, radios, and extraction tools.
