🦌 Youth Deer Season in October Just Got Even Better

Kentucky’s youth-only fi****ms deer season has been extended to nine full days, running October 11–19, 2025. That means more opportunities for young hunters to enjoy the outdoors during one of the most comfortable and exciting times of the year.

The extra time gives families more flexibility around busy fall schedules, better weather conditions, and more chances to create lasting memories in the field.

Check out the 2025 Fall Hunting Guide for all the details!

🦌 Countdown to Season: 9 Weeks to Archery, 11 Weeks to Crossbow 🏹

Kentucky’s deer seasons are fast approaching—archery kicks off in just 9 weeks, and crossbow season opens in 11. It’s a great time to start dialing in your gear, scouting your spots, and brushing up on your knowledge.

📌 Following up from last weekend’s post—many of you asked:
"What happens to a fawn if a doe is harvested early in the season?"

Great question! The chart below helps answer it. Based on 10-year averages, most fawns across Kentucky are fully weaned by early to mid-August, depending on your region. By the start of archery season in early September, fawns are independent and no longer dependent on their mothers.

🗺️ Use the map to check peak fawning and weaning dates in your area.

🌱 And here's something else to consider:
When fawns are born unusually late, it’s often a sign of an overpopulated doe herd. Too many does can stretch out the breeding season, leading to more fawns being born outside their ideal window. These late-born fawns face higher risks from predators—because they’re isolated on the landscape—and they’re less likely to survive the winter due to poor body condition.

Harvesting does is one of the most effective ways to support a balanced, healthy deer population.

🎯 Let’s make this season a safe, ethical, and successful one.
