We’re also a drop off location for tabs! 💕
What started in 2021 as a friendly competition between the Troy and Canton Area School Districts has grown into something we never could have imagined.
Our first Tab Wars collected 1,332 pounds of aluminum tabs.
Then our communities did what they do best:
They showed up.
2021 — 1,332 lbs.
2022 — 2,062 lbs.
2023 — 1,992 lbs.
2024 — 2,622 lbs.
2025 — 2,892 lbs.
Families started saving.
Grandparents started saving.
Local businesses put out collection containers.
Alumni joined in.
Friends and neighboring communities began collecting.
What started with two school districts quickly became something much bigger.
Through Tab Wars, Kids Can’t Fight Cancer Alone has donated more than $5,000 to Ronald McDonald House in Danville—all from something most of us would normally throw away.
One tab at a time. ❤️
Each year, Tab Wars gives us the opportunity to make those little tabs mean something even more.
This year, they will carry the memory of someone very special to so many people in our community.
With the blessing of her children, Mason, Evan and Raelyn, we are honored to announce that the 2026 Troy vs. Canton Tab Wars will be held in loving memory of Christine Woodward. ❤️
Christine was a teacher, coach, mother, daughter, sister, friend and incredible supporter of the children and families in her community.
She spent nearly 15 years teaching in the Troy Area School District, but her impact reached far beyond the walls of her classroom.
Whether she was teaching, coaching, volunteering or cheering from the sidelines, Chris showed up—and she made a difference.
Those who knew Chris knew how deeply she loved her family, her students, her faith and her community.
They also knew the words she lived by:
“Live Simply.”
We can’t think of a more fitting message for what Tab Wars has become.
Saving one little aluminum tab is about as simple as it gets.
But one tab becomes a handful.
A handful becomes a bucket.
A bucket becomes a barrel.
And when an entire community chooses to do one simple thing together, it can become something extraordinary.
This year, we’re dreaming BIG.
The current Guinness World Record is 3,648 pounds of aluminum can tabs turned in at one time
Last year, our communities collected 2,892 pounds.
That means 3,649 pounds would break the record.
Can Troy, Canton and all the communities that have joined this tradition do it?
We’re certainly going to find out. ❤️
There will still be a Troy vs. Canton winner.
There will still be bragging rights.
And we fully expect these kids to battle it out until the very last tab. 😂
But this year, there will be something even more important behind every tab we collect:
Christine.
A woman who spent so much of her life showing up for others.
Maybe that is the perfect way to honor her—not with something complicated or grand, but with thousands of people choosing to do one very small, very simple thing together.
Live Simply.
Save a tab.
Help a family.
And maybe—just maybe—break a world record in Christine’s memory while we’re at it. ❤️
