“Don’t let him bully you. Don’t let him take your line.”
That’s what our Crew Chief, Zac Branson, told Nick during his battle with Paul Wolff in Friday’s Pro Mod Main at Ultra4 USA Nationals.
Paul is one of the best drivers in Ultra4. After watching Nick develop over the last 2 ½ years, seeing him go wheel to wheel with Wolff was one of Zac’s favorite moments of the weekend.
The two traded the lead, diving into the rocks, bouncing off boulders, and fighting for every position.
Ultra4's own announcer Miles Hasselquist called it
“an absolute dog fight.”
To Zac, it showed just how far Nick has come as a driver. Being on comms, coaching him “step by step, rock by rock,” made it even better.
Another highlight was Anthony Denney’s first solo race at Nationals. He had previously taken over as driver for Nick at King of the Hammers and Vegas to Reno.
“He earned the spot. He really deserved to be in the car.” - Zac
Anthony passed Dustin Robbins through the rocks to win the 4900 UTV Open B Prelim 2.
One piece of advice that has stuck with Zac is: “Test. Test everything.”
As Crew Chief he credits that to the team’s progress throughout the 2026 season, their organization, scheduling, and attention to detail.
After doubling the car count and race schedule in 2025, preparation and testing under race conditions became priorities.
And his measure of a good race weekend?
“When you can put your stuff on the trailer, when everybody can get home safe, it’s usually a good weekend.”
