Tryout season is when parents typically panic.
Worried about if their kid will show up as the athlete they have the potential to be or the athlete who is feeling down on themselves and their abilities.
I’m a speed coach. I train athletes for a living. And when it was my own daughter getting ready for varsity tryouts, my first instinct was still to add more conditioning, more sessions, more pressure.
Because as a once competitive athlete, this would’ve motivated me back in the day.
Knowing what I know now …
None of it helped.
What actually helped was doing less of the wrong things.
More rest, better fuel, fewer “try harder” talks, and more protecting the parts of her life that keep her confident.
Because tryouts don’t reward the most tired kid on the field.
They reward the one who walks on believing she belongs there.
Save this for the week before tryouts. You’ll want it. 😎
And if your athlete has tryouts coming up and you want them walking in confident, not just conditioned, DM me CLASS and I’ll send you the schedule for our training. 💪
