Whether you fish in Louisiana or not, you should care about what happens in its coastal waters. Why? Because tarpon throughout the Gulf migrate by the thousands along the Louisiana coast, where they are at risk of being caught and killed as BYCATCH in commercial menhaden fishing nets. Louisiana is also home to a world-class redfish fishery that is being severely impacted by the menhaden industry. A 2024 study showed that a whopping 30,000 redfish were killed as bycatch! The menhaden industry needs to do better.

EMAIL the LA State Natural Resources Committee tonight (April 7) before it considers five critical fisheries management bills tomorrow morning. Even if you live in another state but visit Louisiana to fish, your voice matters! Tell the committee how commercial menhaden harvest directly impacts the health of the Gulf's shared tarpon fishery and that you support common-sense regulations guided by science.
