Do you feel like you need to "prepare" before joining a gym? Like you have to reach a certain fitness level before you’re "ready" for coaching?

That feeling of intimidation, or the belief that if you can’t go 100%, it isn't worth doing, is what holds most people back.

We’re here to break that cycle.

"Getting in shape" is a process, not a prerequisite. At The Med Gym, we help you ditch the all-or-nothing thinking and build a routine that fits your life. No judgment, just a clear plan designed for you, right now.

You don’t have to be "in shape" to start. You need to show up.

CLIENT MILESTONE 🎉

One year of hard work for Lori Lerew at The Med Gym!

In 12 months, you’ve shown what commitment, patience, and perseverance can do. We’ve loved watching your journey and helping you along the way this past year.

Thank you for being a great part of The Med Gym community!

We’re celebrating 12 years of The Med Gym! It’s been an incredible journey helping our community move better and live stronger. To keep that momentum going, let’s talk about a foundational movement: the Goblet Hip Hinge.

Stop letting your lower back do all the work! By holding a weight in front of you, you're forced to keep your chest up and your spine neutral; this is the setup for maintaining ideal posture.

Mastering this movement teaches you to hinge at the hips and load your glutes, keeping your back safe and strong when you're lifting groceries, kids, or anything else during your day. Move smarter, not harder!

Better in 60 Seconds: Master the Step Up

The Setup: Get your whole foot on your surface. Make sure your heel remains planted.
The Drive: Lean into it slightly and push through the middle of your top foot.
The Climb: Don't use your back foot to spring yourself up, that is cheating.
The Finish: Stand up nice and tall at the very top.
The Way Down: Count to 3 as you lower yourself back down until your toe touches the floor.

Common Struggles
The Back Foot "Spring": If you find yourself bouncing off the floor, you're letting your calf do the work instead of your legs.
The Heavy Drop: Don't just fall! Control the descent to really build strength.
Wobbly Knees: Keep your knee pointing straight over your toes, don't let it cave inward.
Lifting the Heel: Keep that top heel flat on the box to protect your joints.

Quick Tip & Progression

Ready for more? Once you've mastered the bodyweight version with a slow 3-second descent, try holding a kettlebell in the "goblet" position at your chest for increased difficulty!

Do you find yourself constantly stretching your upper traps or rubbing your neck at the end of the day? It’s possible that this muscle tightness is being caused by your breathing.

The "Stress Breathing" Cycle

When we are stressed or sedentary, we tend to breathe shallowly into the upper chest. This forces "accessory muscles" like the scalenes and upper traps to do the heavy lifting for every breath. This not only causes physical stiffness but also reinforces a sympathetic nervous system state (fight or flight), making it harder to relax.

The Solution: Diaphragmatic Breathing

Proper breathing is the foundation of core stability. When the diaphragm functions correctly, it creates 360-degree expansion around your entire midsection. This intra-abdominal pressure stabilizes your spine from the inside out, taking the load off your neck and lower back.

Key Benefits:

Slow, deep breathing signals the parasympathetic "rest and digest" system allowing proper regulation of the nervous system.

Engages the deep transverse abdominis for better movement quality and core stability.

Stops the overuse of neck muscles for respiratory tasks.

Try this assessment:

Lay down and place one hand on your chest and one on your belly. Inhale deeply. If only your top hand moves, you’re missing out on stability and relaxation. Aim for your bottom hand and sides to expand first.

Ready to move better? Practice 5 minutes of focused breathing today.

But don’t just take our word for it; hear from one of the women who recently completed the program:

“I came away feeling better informed, more confident, and equipped with practical strategies I can continue to use.” -Sandy

That is exactly why Haley designed this program. It’s not about quick fixes or generic workouts; it’s about giving you the specific education and individualized strength training you need to navigate perimenopause and menopause with confidence.
