We are very proud of McKay! The recipient of the Mitchell Thorp award in the Pony division at LCYO! This award is given to a player who best represents the values of our league and our community, both on and off the field. Mitchell Thorp was a child who played baseball at LCYO and CYB. He was a young boy who had a love of baseball and life. Tragically, on November 19, 2008, Mitchell was taken by an undiagnosed condition. As a way of carrying on Mitchell's legacy, his family has created the Mitchell Thorp Foundation and Awards. The main goal of the foundation is to support families whose children are suffering from life-threatening illnesses, diseases, and disorders.Through various fundraisers, corporate sponsorships, and grants help to support the Foundation’s mission. Annually, the foundation donates grant money to LCYO baseball for those that can not afford to pay to play the game Mitchell loved.
Some of those values include:
• Having a passion for baseball
• Being a supportive teammate and working to help others
• Being a leader who has earned the respect of their teammates and coaches through
• Having strong academics and been involved in the community
Congrats McKay! Well deserved! You have grown to become a great leader on our team and any team you participate on! Keep representing in a positive way! Believe in yourself and keep working towards your goals! We are here for you always!
