Meet Sonny Merlo - Director of FCA Baseball San Diego. Sonny brings over 25 years of coaching experience to FCA Baseball.

Sonny shares… I have coached long enough to understand that wins fade stats get replaced, and seasons move on. What last is who these young men become. That perspective shapes how I lead every day. My passion is not simply building better players. It is developing disciplined, accountable, faith centered young men who will someday become strong husbands, fathers and leaders in their communities.

As FCA Baseball San Diego, Director, I work alongside coaches and families who believe baseball is a platform for something greater. We intentionally integrate faith, leadership development, and high-level training because I believe competition and character must grow together. The real work happens in dugouts practices, team huddles, and one-on-one conversations that matter far more than we can see.

Teamwork - it’s built on the field and off the field - cheering your teammates on to encouraging your pitcher when they have a setback. The Cooperstown 12U FCA team played this weekend in a MDW tournament as they prep for their trip to Cooperstown this summer.

Putting in the work on and off the field. From BP and circuit training, to pitching and infield drills, our teams practice two times per week with our FCA coaches who are committed to helping them develop as players. They close out each practice with a huddle and prayer because our hope is to develop them into faith leaders.

Today we want to take a moment to stop and truly honor you. Being a mom is one of the most selfless, demanding, and beautiful callings there is. You show up day after day, pouring out your love, your prayers, and your faith into the lives of those around you, often without fanfare or recognition.

We see you. We appreciate you. And we are so incredibly grateful for you.

Proverbs 31:25 says, “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” That is a picture of you. A woman of strength, of grace, and of deep, enduring faith.

Your love leaves a mark that lasts far longer than you may ever know. The seeds you plant in the lives of your children and those around you will bear fruit for generations to come.

We pray that today you feel celebrated, refreshed, and deeply loved. You deserve every bit of joy this day can bring.

We’re still celebrating all that happened this past Saturday at Faith & Family night. Thousands of fans fills Gallagher Square for worship and to hear players share their testimonies. We handed out 400 Bibles! Drop a comment with your favorite part of the night.

Pressure reveals character …
Each month, all of our teams gather for HUDDLE ⚾️ it’s a time away from the drills and the baseball diamond. We play dodgeball, eat pizza and have snacks, and hear an encouraging faith-based message from one of our FCA Coaches, former MLB players or area youth pastors. It’s a team building time where the players can connect with each other and have fun. But more importantly, we’re helping our players understand that wins fade, stats get replaced and seasons move on, but the character that they develop is what will last.
