Congratulations to James Concannon Sensei on being awarded his GKCglobal Nidan grading yesterday. James Sensei, who teaches an excellent karate program at Strathclyde University, will be returning to Scotland today after a two week stint participating in GKCglobal’s uchi deshi program. Lara Elliot, also from Scotland, spent two weeks training and assisted James in his pretest preparations and during his test.

Depending on the level of the student, the way we teach kata is typically: solo kata, refer principle of movement to application, explore sequence application from a number of points of view (various scenarios), reference relevance of Sanchin kata (how it supports/dictates way of moving/applying), solo kata again (now we have context), repeat.
