Back in 2000, David Cotter and Kevin Bigley came up with a plan to have the running club host a 50 mile and 50K ultra marathon race starting and finishing at Spooner Lake State Park. It became an instant classic and the first ultra marathon in the Tahoe Basin.
Sadly this past Friday David Cotter succumbed to long battle with Parkinson's disease and then ultimately cancer.
David guided and directed the TRTER into a international destination race once the 100 mile distance was added.
He was also the Tahoe Mountain Milers running club president for for well more than a decade organizing trail runs all over the Tahoe Rim Trail and Tahoe trails. He always had to make it a party with food and drink at the finish. It was great fun with many running friends.
After retiring from the USFS and from race director at TRTER, he and his wife Sharlee moved to the Big Island of Hawaii and enjoy many years of playing golf and Island life.
Rest in Peace Dave, you will be missed by many friends and family. 💔
