SOMETIMES, TIME ONLY CONFIRMS WHAT OUR EYES HAD ALREADY SEEN.
14 years ago, I traveled throughout Europe, visiting several different countries, including France, alongside my wife and daughter.
After seeing what was happening in France firsthand, I told my family that I would never return to that country. What I witnessed left such a strong impression on me that I described France as becoming a true boiling cauldron of hell.
At the time, my wife disagreed with me. Perhaps she saw things differently, or maybe she thought I was being too extreme in my assessment.
But time passed.
Today, in light of the recent events in France, she said something that stayed with me:
“You were right about what you said and what you saw back then.”
I am not writing this to blame every French citizen or condemn an entire nation. I am writing this because I believe we should never ignore the warning signs we see with our own eyes, nor should we be afraid to express our concerns.
Sometimes, people disagree with us because they cannot yet see what we see. And sometimes, it takes time for reality to become impossible to ignore.
The truth is that the future is not shaped on the day the consequences become visible. It is shaped much earlier, by the choices we make, the problems we ignore, and the changes we allow to happen.
Ten years ago, I had an experience in France that left a lasting impression on me. Today, my own wife acknowledges that my concerns deserved to be taken seriously.
May we never lose the courage to face reality, the wisdom to understand it, or the freedom to speak our minds.
Because ignoring the warning signs does not make them disappear.
