Returning to a love, an appreciation, an awareness of what our bodies can do and feel 🌀🐚 that’s what it’s always been about. I love knowing what you’re enjoying on Mood Barre, and did you know I take requests? How are we feeling out there? What movement are we craving?

Why use plastic when the decoration is right outside your door? Inside your drawers? In an old scrapbook?

To those who celebrate the holidays, I hope you find grounding and peace, and that you prioritize yourself and the loved ones that light you up.

May you find time to reconnect to yourself, to speak with nature, and sit in stillness and listen, even if it’s only silence that answers.

ON LANGUAGE 〰️ I've always turned to movement as a way to work things out emotionally and organize my thoughts. I remember turning 17, newly licensed to drive, feeling sad and anxious and driving my vw cabrio to join a dingy little strip-mall gym in my town because they offered group fitness classes. I can only imagine what kind of weird early '00 cues were being thrown around those rooms, but luckily all I remember is the relief and enjoyment I found there. Since then, I've been in many otherwise wonderful movement classes when I’m jolted by an out-of-touch, shame-inducing, or harmful cue from an instructor. This is quite the bummer when you've come to movement to tend to your mind and heart and body.

I've long known I wanted to offer accessible, uplifting movement experiences for the moody among us. My central question has always been: how can we use movement as a catalyst to shift into calmer, happier, more creative, and more empathetic states of mind? It's a question I'm always thinking about, Mood Barre's north star maybe, and I often find that the answer brings me back to language. And so I teach similarly to how I'd have a conversation with a friend I adore. By which I mean with kindness, connection, care, lightness, fun. It works for me, maybe it will work for you too.
