The Switch Knee Mistake That’s Killing Your Power
Most guys throw the switch knee wrong. They switch, step straight forward, and stay right on the centerline.
Here’s why that’s costing you:
You can’t land clean. Staying on the centerline means your opponent has an easy angle to move off-line and counter you before your knee even lands.
You’re not safe. Stepping forward without moving off-line puts you directly in your opponent’s line of fire.
You can’t turn your hip. Power on the switch knee comes from hip rotation, and you can’t rotate your hip fully if you’re standing square. You’ve got to step outside the centerline to open your hips up.
Step off-line. Turn the hip. Land it clean.

Double plum is a dangerous place to be. Your neck is controlled, your posture is broken, and knees are coming.
Use this style to get more leverage.
Shoot your arm behind their neck like a hook not a separate motion, one movement. Step with it. Push under their elbow at the same time. Try to break this into pieces and you’ll lose the exchange. This only works when your hip and shoulder move together with your foot.
Get it right and you’re the one with double control now. Their head moves where you want it. Now, you can throw dangerous knees🥊

Big clinch class last night 🥊
We had all levels of athletes in the room. First timers, people who train for years, and some fighters who are getting ready for their competition.
What people like about our community is our hospitality.
From the moment someone new comes in the door, we have a unique process of welcoming them. Because we genuinely feel curious about what got them into Muay Thai training.
Then we try to introduce them to the entire class. Because we know how it feels to be a stranger at a Muay Thai gym.
Our biggest mission is making this sport loved by more people. And that comes from being able to help people from every walk of life.
If you have been considering starting your Muay Thai journey, Alliance is the right place for you.
Because we want to build an environment where you feel seen, appreciated, and safe while getting in badass shape.

Pad holding isn’t just catching punches and kicks.
The sound matters.
When you hold pads, your reaction to the shot, the pop, the smack, and the vocal sounds tell your partner something landed. Time that sound with the strike and you’re not just holding pads anymore. You’re building their confidence one rep at a time.
If you are new to a Muay Thai gym, you will hear coaches and students making noise on the pads and wonder what’s going on. This is why. It’s feedback. It’s encouragement. It’s part of the language of the sport.
The louder, more connected the sound, the more your partner trusts their own power.
Pad holding is a skill. Sound is part of it.

New pad holding classes on every Tuesday at 6:00pm!
Pad holding isn’t just holding pads. It’s coaching in real time. Set the aim, the timing, the distance, and you shape how your partner improves. Start simple.
Call single shots. Build from there. And if you’re new to it, have patience.
That’s how nobody gets hurt. 🥊

Rhythm is a weapon. Set one with your punches and kicks, and you stop reacting to the fight, you start dictating it.
Break that rhythm with feints and you hide your power shots behind it.
Here we set up the rear kick with a same-side punch feint, keeping the cross out to block the vision for that powerful kick!
Come try a class🥊
If you’re throwing kicks without setting them up first, you’re making it easy for your opponent to see them coming, and easy to block.
The fix: hide your kick behind your punches. Extend that cross like you mean it, then let the kick follow behind it. Feint the punch, and use that opening to land your kick clean.
Punches aren’t just strikes. They’re setups. Master the feint, and your kicks start landing the way they’re supposed to.
