Virtual Shamrock Run 03/17/2021

If you haven't already signed up for this year's virtual Shamrock Run, what better time than St. Patrick's Day? Put on that green, lace up those running shoes, and get out there!

Virtual Shamrock Run The Virtual Shamrock Run is on Monday March 1, 2021 to Wednesday March 31, 2021.

Virtual Shamrock Run 02/25/2021

The course is marked and ready-to-go for Monday and the start of this year's virtual Shamrock 5-mile!
The start/finish will be at the gate down to the track at Crater High School (on the northern edge of the football stadium). There is an orange line painted on the gravel to mark the start/finish. I couldn't paint on the newly paved parking lot, so follow the left edge of the parking lot and exit out the driveway next to the softball field. From there, there are *orange* arrows marking the course. The only real change is the turnaround is about 1/4 mile further out to make up for not using the track. Try to stay on the sidewalks until you hit the Greenway, and use caution when crossing 10th St near Fair City Market -- traffic speeds through there and never stops.
Because the start and finish are in Crater's parking lot, and students are back on campus, try to avoid clocking your time during school hours on weekdays.

You can still sign up for this year's virtual race, and you have the entire month of March to record you time and post it at RunSignUp.
Remember, The Grotto is giving a free personal pizza to the male and female winners, and 20% off to all participants; just tell them "I ran the Shamrock Run!"

Registration is live for the first (and hopefully last) annual Shamrock virtual 5-mile. We'll have the course ready for you to clock your time by March 1 (you'll have until the end of March to record your times).
More information to come, but there will be a slight modification due to Crater's track not being open to the public (the start/finish will be at the gate).
Head over to RunSignUp and register!

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday I was asked if The Shamrock Run was still on, or if it was going to be canceled. I’ve always had the US Postal Service mentality when it comes to running; Rain, sleet, or snow (or even a nasty bout with the stomach flu)… we’re running. Then the dominos started falling yesterday evening. First the Rogue Creamery canceled their Cheese Festival. Then the OSAA announced that the state high school basketball tournament would be played without fans. Then the NBA suspended their season. Even after Gov. Kate Brown issued new state guidelines on limiting large groups and meetings, I still planned to move forward. The deciding factor was Central Point School District beginning to respond to Gov. Brown’s new guidelines and starting to limit non-essential activities at schools. Because we use Crater High School’s campus as the venue for the race, this took the decision out of our hands. With 48 hours until race time, there simply isn’t enough time to find a new venue, measure and mark a new course, apply for new permits, and the dozens of other things that would have to be done.

It's with great frustration and disappointment that we are canceling this year’s Shamrock Run.

We’re currently in talks about RunSignUp, potential refunds, and an informal group run Saturday. Please stay tuned for more information later today.
