Due to the new restrictions that were added this past week, a medical referral is now required to schedule massage therapy appointments. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
Personal training sessions are still available under the new guidelines though. I have also started offering training sessions that are more geared towards stretching and pain relief for clients that are unable to get a medical referral for massage therapy.
I’m hopeful that these are temporary measures that have been put in place, but only time will tell.

You don't need a lot of home equipment to get a good workout in, no matter what your goals are. Adjustments can be made to pretty much any exercise that will make them more demanding. If you're used to doing weighted exercises at the gym, don't overlook the value of bodyweight exercises, especially while all of the gyms are closed.
For example, if you're doing a set of bodyweight squats and they feel too easy, you can add a pause at the bottom of the rep to increase the difficulty. Plus, there is always value in practicing good technique over and over again.
Keeping active during this time will make it easier to jump back into your regular exercise routine once places start opening up again. If you aren't currently following an exercise routine, now is a great time to start.

Don't fall into the trap of waiting for gyms to open back up before starting to incorporate a workout plan into your regular schedule. Gyms won't open for at least another month, and even then it's hard to say what kind of restrictions will be placed on capacity and such. Even without access to a gym there are still a wide number of exercises that can be done with minimal or no equipment at all!
Probably the most important benefit of regular exercise during this time of uncertainty is its ability to improve your mood and happiness. It can be easy to fall into a trap of feeling helpless and depressed when you're stuck at home all day, but that can be remedied with even just a little bit of physical activity. Going out and enjoying a walk, doing bodyweight exercises at home, etc. are all great ways to relieve some stress.
If you're struggling with developing a home routine, or just need a little bit of accountability, don't hesitate to reach out and ask for advice or help.

If there's one thing I've learned over the years as a coach, it's to never discount certain methods of training. When I first started out, I was about as anti-machine as you could get. I simply thought they were a waste of time! Why use machines when free weights provide so much more benefits?
I quickly changed my tune on machines when I worked with clients that simply could not handle free weights. If you're a coach, you're going to work with a huge variety of people. Some clients may have medical conditions that affect their balance. Others may be wildly uncomfortable using free weights and may need to be introduced to weight training through machines.
Long story short is, I'd rather show someone how to do something that they'll be able to do on their own as opposed to showing them something they will never do on their own and waste their time.
That's important if you're training on your own too. Always be open minded when it comes to trying new exercises or methods of training. Don't let a bad experience with a certain methodology, or gym, or even a coach discourage you from adopting a regular exercise routine. Find something that you enjoy doing and that you can do consistently and you will see results.
Of course, it always helps to work with a qualified professional to get you started on the right foot too 😁

Change can be very difficult and scary for everyone. This past year has been an absolute whirlwind of change for me and my business.
Last year my massage therapy employer and I parted ways. I decided it was finally time to open up my own space and took the leap. Looking back it was one of the best decisions I made as my client list has steadily grown since moving and I'm in complete control of how I operate.
Just over a month ago I made the decision to move my personal training business out of a toxic work environment and into to a different space. AND then in the middle of that move is when COVID-19 caused a state-wide shutdown. I was left with no way to train or do massage therapy.
Since then, I've been hard at work getting my clients set up with online programs and training. It's been a great success so far, and I think that a year from now I'll be able to look back at this turbulent time and say that my business was able to benefit from the changes I've implemented.
