Geetha Ramkumar is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, Precision Nutrition-certified Mindset and Behavior Change Coach, Women’s Coaching Specialist (Girls Gone Strong), and BollyX Dance Fitness Instructor. She is a passionate advocate for the “Always Something” over “All or Nothing” mindset and works to spread this philosophy within her community.

Her journey began when she found herself juggling a full-time job, a newborn, and a competitive tennis-playing child. Through small, intentional changes, she discovered a sustainable approach to balance—one that has shaped her coaching for nearly two decades and now shares with clients.
Geetha understands the challenges of busy professionals, parents, and individuals navigating different life stages, which is why her training focuses on strength, agility, bone health, joint mobility, and functional fitness to support a strong, capable body for everyday life.

Message from Certified Personal Trainer Roger Mack, COO Optimum Sports and Fitness

As the popularity of weight loss drugs such as Wegovy, Ozempic, Mounjaro and Zepbound continues to rise, it’s important to address strength training as a crucial aspect of your health journey while taking these GLP-1s.

While these drugs can be effective for weight loss, research has shown that increased muscle loss can occur without proper strength training and adequate protein intake. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism found that individuals using GLP-1 agonists, like Wegovy and Ozempic, experienced significant muscle mass reduction alongside fat loss when they did not engage in regular strength training.

As a certified personal trainer, my mission is to continually educate and empower you to maintain and build muscle while using these medications. With the personal training team at Optimum Sports and Fitness, we're here to assist you every step of the way to adjust your routine and collectively incorporate the necessary goals into your lifestyle.

Strength training is essential not only for preserving muscle mass, but also for boosting metabolism, enhancing physical performance, and improving overall mental health and well-being. According to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), incorporating resistance training at least two to three times per week can significantly improve body composition and metabolic health.

In addition, a balanced diet rich in protein is crucial to support muscle growth and recovery. While the International Society of Sports Nutrition recommends individuals aim towards consuming 1.4-2.0 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day in order to build or maintain muscle, you should also keep in mind this is dependent on the activity level and training intensity.

If you choose to utilize these weight loss drugs under the supervision of your healthcare professional, I urge you to become proactive by integrating strength training into your routine alongside meeting your daily protein needs. This approach will help you achieve your weight loss goals more effectively and sustain a healthy, strong body. By combining these elements, you can enhance the overall effectiveness of the medication while supporting your long-term health and fitness.

Lexie joins us as a senior at GMU, pursuing a degree in Kinesiology with aspirations of obtaining a master’s degree in Athletic Training. She discovered her passion for field hockey in high school and has since dedicated herself to helping athletes thrive. Her background in sports fuels her passion for working with athletes and witnessing their growth over time.

During her internship at Optimum Sports And Fitness, Lexie hopes to deepen her knowledge of exercise programming and develop her skills in working one-on-one with clients. She’s excited to contribute her expertise to our team and support our clients in achieving their fitness goals.

Resurgent Sports Rehab knee pain workshop was a success! Dr. Tim Webb discussed myths about knee pain and how you can gain control of yours!

Key takeaways:
- The knee is the middleman influenced by the hip and ankle.
- Arthritis can improve when in the right environment.
- Mobility check: you should be able to touch your foot to your butt.
- Strength check: single leg squats with hip aligned with knee and aligned with 3rd toe is the goal for optimal tracking.
