If youre going to develop a good closed guard game, you need to make sure you are working not just against training partners who are sitting, or on their knees, but also who will stand to open the guard. Being able to switch between off balancing them while keeping the guard closed and opening the guard to entangle the legs is a key skill you need be able to work both sides of in order to see real mastery of either.
