Understanding, appreciating & connecting with the many different cultures occupational therapists identify & engage with builds better therapists & communities of care.

🌎Dr. Ryan Lavalley delivered the initiating masterclass lecture for a COIL Course collaboration among four South American university Occupational Therapy programs:

📍National University of Mar del Plata, Argentina 🇦🇷
📍University of Pamplona, Norte de Santander, Colombia 🇨🇴
📍University Metropolitana, Colombia 🇨🇴
📍Catholic University of Temuco, Chile 🇨🇱

He was asked to set the stage for an ongoing dialogue among the students through the larger COIL experience, exploring occupational science, occupational therapy, and their relationship. His lecture, titled La Ciencia de la Comunidad Cotidiana: Un Puente a Transformación Social [The Science of Everyday Community: A Bridge to Social Transformation], focused on his development as an occupational scientist and how he has leveraged occupational science to expand the type of occupational therapy practice (community-level) he hopes to see more of in the United States, offering examples from the Community Practice Lab’s portfolio (🔗go.unc.edu/CPL).
