10 Years Ago Yesterday -- Alexander Central set the record for most total yards in a gam when the Cougars racked up 927 yards (801 rushing, 126 passing) in a 82-42 win against Ashe County.

The two teams combined for 1,392 yards in Taylorsville, making it the third highest mark for combined total offense in the NCHSAA Record Books.

The NCHSAA Staff welcomed Dr. Dudley Flood – retired North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) Associate Superintendent, who helped facilitate the integration of the state’s public schools (in the 1970s and 1980s) – to the Simon F. Terrell Building on Wednesday, September 9. In this video, Dr. Flood discusses educating 21st century learners on the initial impact and enduring legacy of September 11, 2001.

Dr. Flood was a high school teacher and coach and consulted professionally in 49 of 50 states and in three countries (Canada, Germany, and Mexico) on school integration. Dr. Flood will celebrate his 94th birthday on September 13.

54 Years Ago... on September 18, 1972, the NCHSAA held its first Regional Meeting -- a practice that will continue this year, beginning on September 21. (Registration closes tomorrow)

The eight-region tour will begin in Concord then Asheville --> North Wilkesboro --> Greensboro --> Fayetteville --> Kenansville --> Greenville --> Raleigh.

Regional Meetings give the NCHSAA the opportunity to distribute annual passes and handbooks, provide updates on the state of the Association, review important rule changes, and share other helpful information with school administrators.
