🎉 WE’VE BEEN NOMINATED!🎉

Sozo Family Fitness has been nominated in the Irmo Chapin Life Magazine Best of 2027 for not one, but TWO categories:

🏆 #48 – Best Fitness Facility
🏆 #89 – Best Personal Training

And while I’m incredibly grateful for the recognition, I have to say this:

These nominations belong to our incredible Sozo team. ❤️

Last year was a pretty challenging one for me personally, and I needed to be away from the gym for a good part of the year. Watching our team rally together, support one another, take care of our members, and keep Sozo moving forward was something I will never forget.

They didn’t just keep things running. They showed up for each other and for our members. They worked as a team, stepped into new roles when needed, and continued to deliver the care and personal attention that makes Sozo what it is.

And that’s what makes these nominations especially meaningful.

We’re so grateful that the things we’ve worked hard to create at Sozo resonate with people — our customized 1:1 personal training, our classes, open gym, Kids Cove, and most importantly, the sense of community and belonging that we hope you feel when you walk through our doors.

So if you believe in what we’re doing at Sozo, we would be incredibly grateful for your vote! ❤️

You can vote for us here through 9/17:

Thank you for believing in Sozo, supporting our team, and being part of this sweet community we’ve built together.

We are SO grateful. ❤️

Motivation isn't something you find. It's something you create.

Here's how to do it right now:
1️⃣ Tell someone. Saying your intention out loud to another person changes everything.

Suddenly it's not just a thought in your head; it’s a commitment: Text a friend, tell your partner, post it in a group, or just say it out loud.

2️⃣ Make it smaller. Can't face the full workout? Don't.
Set a timer for 5-10 minutes and then see what happens.

3️⃣ Just start. This is the biggest “trick.”
Motivation rarely shows up before you begin. It needs to be welcomed in by your actions.

Save this for the next time motivation goes missing and follow along for more real-world strategies for busy folks who want to feel sustainably stronger, fitter, and leaner.

“Let’s see what I’m capable of…”

That was Charley’s answer when I asked him about his fitness goals before joining Sozo.

And I absolutely love that answer. ❤️

Charley joined Sozo around April 2nd after previously working out consistently at the Y. He enjoyed the Y, but had hit a plateau and wasn’t seeing the progress he wanted.

When we talked about getting started with personal training, Jon had Wednesdays and Fridays available. I suggested starting the following Wednesday.

Charley’s response?

“No, how about tomorrow? No need to wait! 😂

And he showed up the very next day.

Fast forward to today, and the results have exceeded even his own expectations.

In Charley’s words:

“My weight is down, lean mass is up, blood panels are improved and I’m off of my blood pressure medication. Plus I truly enjoy my exercise routine.”

And he’s not stopping there. He’s continuing to work toward that next level, training with Jon, taking Jon’s cycling classes, and recently adding Ron’s DDP Yoga classes to work on flexibility and core strength. He even says he’s got his eye on trying a few more classes once that flexibility improves. 💪

And (I truly LOVE this part!) his wife Alison has joined him at Sozo- working with Jon to navigate around some old injuries and challenges from her years as a competitive swimmer.

But one of my favorite parts of Charley’s message wasn’t even about the physical results.

He talked about how much he enjoys "the people—the conversations with members, trainers, and staff.

That is exactly what we hope Sozo can be.

A place where you come to get stronger, healthier and more capable… but also a place where you feel connected, encouraged and genuinely happy to be here.

Now Charley regularly invites other members to try classes - and they do!

We are so impressed with the work he has put in, and so grateful that he trusted us to be part of his journey.

Now…about that original goal:

“Let’s see what I’m capable of.”

I have a feeling we’re going to keep finding out. 😉💪

-Kara :)

Maybe it's a throwback to being a kid getting ready to start a new school year.

But every September, our mindset shifts… we see it our clients, too.

It’s like a little voice is whispering: “It's time to get serious again.”

If you're feeling that right now, listen to it!

Because that energy is real and it's worth taking advantage of.

If you've been meaning to get back on track with your goals this is a great time to do it.

Our award winning 1:1 personal training program is designed for folks who want to feel sustainably stronger, leaner, and more energized without it taking over their whole life.

Most of the calories you burn every day have nothing to do with your workouts.
Researchers call it NEAT: non-exercise activity thermogenesis. It's everything you do outside of structured exercise.
Studies show it can vary by up to 2,000 calories per day between two people of similar size.
That's why two people can follow the same plan and get different results. And why someone who works out hard but is sedentary the rest of the day can still feel stalled in their progress.
The fix: start looking for opportunities to move more throughout your day.
✅ Take the stairs
✅ Add a daily walk
✅ Stand or pace during phone calls
✅ Get up and move every hour
✅ Find an active hobby instead of watching TV
The benefits go way beyond fat loss. More daily movement means better blood sugar, stronger immunity, better mood, better bone density, and one of the strongest predictors of healthy aging.

Nutshell: move more during your workouts AND all day long.
