This is the revival of the Labor Day 5k formerly done with the Daniel Island Happy Hour Events prior to covid. WE ARE BACK!!... but we have moved to Palmetto Island County Park. The Labor Day 5K Run/Walk is open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. It will be the same great time as we celebrating the achievements and contributions of workers in America.

The Dog Days of Summer was not only one of the hottest races we have ever hosted, but it was also the largest with 99 finishers. This group of runners had a great time and did an incredible job!! Thank you to everyone who came out to make this event so special!! Haoran Zhang of Columbia,SC won the event with a time of 17:07. Our runner-up was Jonta Richardson of Summerville, SC with a time of 18:21. Jessica Cummings of Rio Linda, GA was our female winner with a time of 23:58. Our Female runner-up was Emily Bridges of Greenville, SC with a time of 24:13. Our female Master's Divison winner was Carolyn Holloway from Wichita, KS with a time of 29:16. Our male Master's Division winner was Adam Forshee of Woodstock, GA with a time of 19:19. Our Junior Division winner was Blake Shorter of Mt Pleasant, SC with a time of 23:57. The Bulldog Breakaway Twilight series finished night #4 with a record turnout and incredible weather. Kevin Clark of Charleston, SC won the event for the 3rd time in a row with a time of 17:50. Our runner-up was David McKeel of N. Charleston, SC with a time of 18:08. Anderson Horn of John's Island was 3rd overall with 19:00. Alexandra Ottomanelli of Kiawah Island, SC was our female winner with a time of 19:11. Our female runner-up was Morgan Widenhouse of Mt Pleasant, SC with a time of 20:30. Kiley McGill of Ridgeville, SC was 3rd female with a time of 23:56. Our Female Master's Division winner was Julie Anderson with a time of 28:35. Our Male Master's Division winner was Gerri Schauer with a time of 19:54. Our female Junior Division winner was Emilia Jasevskis with a time of 24:57. Our female junior division runner-up was Nickole Salem with a time of 30:52. Our male junior division winner was Matthew Salem with a time of 52:42. Unfortunately, the weather forecast around race time is not favorable. We recently had a squall move through the area, leaving standing water and debris on portions of the course. While the radar indicates conditions may improve temporarily before race time, it also shows another significant round of rain and thunderstorms developing around 7:00 PM and continuing through approximately 8:00 PM.

After carefully evaluating the conditions and forecast, we believe it is in everyone's best interest to cancel tonight's race.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We greatly appreciate your support and hope to see you next week.

Given the current conditions, we cannot guarantee the safe and properly managed event that our runners deserve.

Good afternoon Bulldog Breakaway Fans!! We are closely monitoring the weather in order for us to host the Bulldog Breakaway Twilight 5K #3 tonight. We will run as long as we don’t have lightning in the area or heavy rainfall. Any lightning strikes within 10 miles of campus shuts us down for a minimum of 45 minutes. As of right now, we are planning on running at 6:30pm. If anything changes, we will email and post on facebook. We will continue to monitor the radar and try to make a decision with your safety in mind, as safety has to be the #1 priority. We appreciate your support and patience. We hope to see you tonight at Willson Field (Track) on The Citadel’s campus.. We will be out there weather permitting at 5:30pm for check in and late registration.
