About: The Society for the Exploration of Altered States (SEAS) is an inclusive community of people who have experienced Altered States of Consciousness (ASC) and those who are curious about them. We intend to create a welcoming space for members to openly share their use of a variety of tools, practices, and modalities to induce or achieve these states of being. Our purpose is threefold: to explo
re the experiential knowledge gained from ASC by means of facilitated group discussions and activities; to assist with the integration of these experiences into our daily waking lives; and to be a supportive container for both personal and social transformation. We are navigators of mare incognitum, the unexplored sea, the uncharted waters of consciousness. Many merely skim the surface, fewer plunge right in. For those who do, the vessels of choice are simply our own minds and bodies, of course. Though the methods of exploration may differ: sensory deprivation/flotation tanks, meditation, yoga, breathwork, plant and synthetic medicines, dreamwork, active imagination, synchronicity, etc., our goals are similar - to induce or achieve an altered state of consciousness, which allows us to reach the very depths of our being, sift through the heavy layers of detritus and sediment lying on its vast seabed, and unearth gnosis (knowledge) into who and what we are at levels beyond the surface. To (re)discover our true nature, our true reality, our true Self. This is the treasure we seek! But… at some point we must resurface with this newfound trove. We must make the slow return home or risk being eternally lost at sea. The journey back may be more treacherous than before, but we must make it. Upon our arrival, how might we make sense of this rich bounty before us? For it is often painful, burdensome, and confusing. How will it enrich us in the days, months, and years ahead? How do we integrate this once deeply held knowledge into our waking lives and then share it with others, so they too may be enriched? And how shall we safely and courageously support them on their own voyages once they heed The Call? We are about to begin a journey into the deep unknown. We will encounter these questions and others with great curiosity, humility, compassion, and awe through a series of group discussions, experiential activities, community collaborations, and more. So join us. We are all in this together!
