Did you take the summer off? Good!
I hope you were busy making memories. 🥰

The other good news is that there are still a couple of refresher and maintenance spots open!

Now that back-to-school season is here, it's a great time to make sure your swimmer is still confident in their skills. The water's still part of everyday life around here, even after school starts. 🧡

Head over to the Class Registration page on the website to find a time that works for your family!

P.S. If you can't find a time that works with your schedule (especially if Tuesday afternoons would be best!), send me an email and I'll see what I can do! ☺️

Holy Mackerel families! 🐟🩵

I've officially wrapped up my last session for new swimmers this season, which means the next couple of weeks are all about my SFS graduates!

I have spots available, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

If you've been meaning to get one more refresher in before summer winds down, now's a great time to grab your spot.

Head over to the registration page to see what's available. If you don't see a time that works for your family—especially if you need a Tuesday afternoon spot—send me an email! I may be able to make something work. 😊

I'd love to see some familiar faces back at the pool before we wrap up the season! ☀️

This is why I make sure to tell parents that the first few days of lessons do NOT give you the full picture. 💛

This is the same kiddo in week 1 vs week 3, and the difference is HUGE.
Week 1, we're not about it at all, but it's more than that.

Being in the pool without our normal grownup feels weird. Having to float instead of being held feels weird. Heck, water in our ears feels weird. 🤪

So the face we see in a picture only tells part of the story.
It never lets you actually hear me saying, "You got it, you're doing great! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ok all done!"

It also doesn't let you see that swimmer starting to support themselves by the 3rd or 4th float, when they feel a little lighter in my hands and a little more confident in their own body.

Those are tiny things that we repeat every lesson, and they're really hard to notice until you're standing on deck in week 3 going, "Holy cow, is that even my kid?!?!"

I'm SO grateful to swim families who decide to share their experience with the lesson process, because this is EXACTLY what happens in a safe, supportive environment with an instructor who knows how to walk your child through the bginning stages where everything feels like a lot, all the way to the end of their session when they're swimming and floating by themselves and don't want to get out of the pool. 😉

Good news swim families!!! 😊
I’m working on adding some refresher + maintenance progression lesson options for later this summer! 🎉

These will be for August 17 – September 24 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

This is just a heads up, so don’t panic-refresh the website quite yet. 😜
I’ll post again when specific lesson times are officially up and ready for registration.

For now, just keep an eye on the website and social media, and I’ll make sure you know when it’s time.

More details coming soon!

Of course this doesn't mean we slack on supervision, but when your kids already have self-rescue skills, THIS is what swim time can look like! ☀️

Every time we do clothes in the pool, I feel like I need to add a little disclaimer. 🤣

No, this does not mean I'm encouraging kids to hop in fully dressed.

Around here, we are VERY much still team Ask First, with an adult present, because no matter how strong your swimmer is the water is not a free-for-all.

But practicing skills in clothes is SO important, because real life doesn’t always happen in a swimsuit.

If a child falls in unexpectedly, their clothes may feel heavy. Their diaper may feel different. Their shoes may make kicking harder. Everything can feel a little “off.”

And the middle of an emergency is not the time I want them thinking,
“Wait…why does this feel different?”

So we practice it before they ever need it, safely, with support, and in a lesson setting where they can figure it out.

It’s not about giving your kids permission to swim in clothes.
It’s about making sure their skills don’t disappear just because the situation isn’t perfect. 💛

I love watching my students’ confidence grow. 😊

Not just when they learn to swim in deep water unassisted or know what to do if they fall in—which, let’s be honest, is already pretty darn impressive.
I mean, a lot of grown-ups don’t even have that skill.

But once they start feeling more in control of their bodies in the water, you can see a little shift.

They start realizing they can do so much more in the water!

They can play games, try trickier skills, take on bigger challenges, and start working toward stroke readiness. And the whole time, they’re just thinking they’re swimming and playing!

Meanwhile I’m over here like…do y'all know you have super-skills?? 🤪

This one made me smile.
This swimmer started with me as a tiny 16-month-old learning his float. 🥹

He came back at 2.5 for a refresher. His family lives on the lake, so water is a HUGE part of their lives. He's always worn a life jacket at the lake (of course 😊). So as he grew, we kept reinforcing his swim and float, making sure he'd know how to get to his back for air if he ever fell in without that life jacket.

And now he’s 5.5, back for a couple refresher/progression lessons, and holy cow he is a STRONG, confident swimmer!!!

I love seeing these students come back year after year!

Those early skills are still there, and they look different now because he’s bigger, stronger, and has more experience in the water.

That’s the whole point.

Nobody's “drown-proof," and these parents never went, “we don’t need to think about lessons anymore.”

They made sure his skills grew with him. 💛
