Quiet eye putting tip: your eyes might be costing you putts. 👀
Most golfers look at the hole, look at the ball, peek early, and chase the putt with their eyes. All that movement can pull the head and shoulders along with it.
The fix is a skill called the quiet eye. Research suggests better putters tend to hold their final fixation longer, and it’s trainable.
Here’s how to build it:
1️⃣ Pick one spot. The back of the ball, or one small mark on it. Same spot, every putt.
2️⃣ Settle before you move. Let your eyes go still before the putter does. Start with a 2-second settle.
3️⃣ Stay quiet through impact. Keep your eyes on the spot where the ball was. Listen for the result. Don’t peek for it.
Try the 10-putt drill ⛳
From 6 feet, hit 10 putts and score your eyes, not the result:
✅ 1 point: eyes settled and stayed through impact
❌ 0 points: you peeked, flickered or chased the ball
Make or miss doesn’t matter. Goal: 8+ out of 10.
Save this for your next putting practice, and send it to the golfer in your life who always peeks.
