Our group is open to all with a sincere desire to begin or continue their FCS/Balintawak training.

We work with beginning and intermediate students, but advanced practitioners and instructors are welcome to share their knowledge and insights.

Continuing from Manong Seth's deep dive into 6 count solo baston sumbrada a couple of weeks ago, exploring left hand version and later incorporating entries and other concepts with Rosemary, Heath, Langdon and Nathan.

Balintwak Cuentada in South Florida with Grandmaster Bobby Taboada 07/05/2026

We are now into July which means we are less than two months away from hosting GM Bobby Taboada’s first Balintawak Cuentada Arnis seminar in Maine (Saturday 22 August 2026, registration starts at 0830, seminar at 0900, Double Tree by Hilton Portland ME; 363 Maine Mall Road, Portland, ME 04106.)

It looks like we are going to get a great turnout with participants coming in from Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia and North Carolina.

We still plan to have a Balintawak Intro/refresher for anyone interested the week before (15 August 2026) on the Brunswick Town Mall. We have learned there will be a HUGE arts & craft fair on the mall that day, but we are pretty sure we can find a corner to do our thing. Meet us by the gazebo and we’ll figure it out.

For those who can’t make the 15 August intro/refresher session and want to set up something at another time before GM Bobby’s seminar, drop me a note.

Here’s a little something to get you in the mood:

Manong Seth and the Waterville crew (Langdon, Heath and Rosemary) joined us for training. Seth did a deep dive suitable for all levels into the 6 count FCS Baston sumbrada, and how to use it as a jumping off point for other techniques. Nathan reviewed what he brought bank from Kerambit Unleashed in NJ and the DC FCS seminar, which then took us to both the kerambit and knife templates and how those can transition into blade six count sumbrada. Then on to Flight Deck Brewing for a post training debrief.

Nathan asked Langdon what he felt he needed to work on the most. The answer: Footwork. So using the 6 count sumbrada as a basis Nathan helped Langdon improve footwork. The nail that sticks up the most gets pounded down first and that's how we improve, one nail at a time.

Remember when we said GM Bobby's seminar in Portland, Maine on 22 August 2026 is open to all skill levels? We weren't kidding.
