Parents, private lessons should be a privilege, not a right!

I see it every week, and after talking with other instructors and facility owners, I know I’m not the only one.

Stop rewarding a lack of effort with more lessons. Stop threatening to take lessons away if your child doesn’t change their attitude or work ethic, only to show up the following week with the exact same problems.

Accountability means nothing without consequences.

Private lessons are an investment in your child’s development, but that investment means very little if they’re unwilling to put in the effort.

As coaches, we can teach mechanics, develop skills, and provide opportunities, but we cannot force an athlete to care.

Effort is a choice. Attitude is a choice. Being coachable is a choice.

Teach your kids to earn their opportunities instead of expecting them.

Wanting your kid to be coachable while you, as an adult, question everything the coach does is a little hypocritical, don’t you think?

Over six years of training, dedication, and growth captured in one short video of Jeremiah Mitchell.

I still remember Jeremiah’s first lesson when we pulled out the radar gun and he topped out at 48 mph. Fast forward six years, and he just hit 90 MPH off the mound for the first time!

Jeremiah has been a staple in our facility for over six years, and I’ve had the privilege of watching him grow from those awkward early days into the pitcher and young man he is today.

What makes me most proud isn’t the number on the radar gun. It’s the countless hours of work, the consistency, the discipline, and his willingness to keep showing up and getting better.

Hard work gets you started. Discipline keeps you going.

This is what true player development looks like. It doesn’t happen overnight, and there are no shortcuts. Just years of trusting the process and putting in the work.

Proud of you, Jeremiah! You’ve earned every bit of your success, and I’m excited to see what’s next.

We’ve entered an era where individual metrics are becoming more important than winning baseball.

Hitting: We’re willing to strike out 100+ times for the chance to hit a few more home runs. Instead of teaching kids how to handle the bat, compete with two strikes, and execute, we’re teaching them to chase a certain number.

Pitching: We’re okay with walking five batters a game as long as we throw 90+ mph. Instead of teaching command, changing speeds, and attacking hitters, we’re chasing velocity.

And unfortunately, a lot of college coaches are missing out on some absolute DAWGS who know how to compete, execute, and WIN because they’re too focused on what numbers pop up on a tablet.

Don’t get me wrong, metrics have their place. But at what point did numbers become more important than knowing how to play the game?

We’re so busy developing measurable tools that we’re forgetting to develop BASEBALL PLAYERS.

Give me a kid who knows how to compete, handles adversity, and finds ways to win over a kid who just looks good on a spreadsheet.

Baseball is a TEAM sport. It’s time we start developing players with that mindset again.

Just a reminder that game changer stats are 100% real and you should definitely read into all of it and make it dictate your happiness as a household.

BASEBALL DEVELOPMENT HAS LOST ITS WAY.

We’ve got kids throwing great bullpens—executing pitches, commanding the zone, learning how to actually PITCH—and they walk away disappointed because their velo was down 2 MPH.

That’s a problem.

We’ve convinced young athletes that metrics equal development. Velo, exit velocity, launch angle, spin rate… all useful tools, but they don’t define a ballplayer.

We’ve made travel ball the Holy Grail instead of practice and development.

We train kids to feel good about their swing instead of teaching them how to compete when their swing doesn’t feel good.

We train for numbers instead of training to WIN AT-BATS.

We chase exposure instead of preparation.

We chase quick results instead of long-term development.

Baseball isn’t played on a spreadsheet. At some point, you have to step between the lines and COMPETE.

Metrics are tools. Travel ball is a tool. Technology is a tool.

None of them replace learning how to play the game.

Something has to change, because I’m tired of watching young players believe they had a bad day simply because a number on a screen told them they did.

Develop baseball players. Not just metrics.

Quit over thinking how to train. The best players are strong and fast. Improve your bench, squat, and deadlift. Learn to rotate really fast and sprint 3-4 times a week and watch how much your game improves. Quit buying program after program and do the simple things really really good.
