You didn’t get the part you’re hoping for. We’ve all been there. It sucks. And it’s hard not to doubt yourself and your abilities. The truth is, even professional dancers get the roles they want and other times, they just don’t. Your role as a student in the Nutcracker does not reflect your talent, or future in dance believe it or not. Where do you go from here? Are you going to make the most of it and still enjoy the experience dancing with your friends?

Posted this on TikTok last September 2025 but relevant no matter the year. We’ve all hoped for a role and not gotten it at some point. Some years I got the role I wanted, some years my best friend got the role. It’s important we don’t take it personally, learn how we can improve for next year, and cheer on our friends/castmates👏🏻🙌🏻🤍
