Hello all, I hope you had a good Thanksgiving holiday and have some fun plans for December. Sorry we have not been able to coordinate a meting in some time. I understand that this is not everyone's number one priority. But I would like to get some dates, activities, events planned for our chapter in early 2024.
Please message with any ideas you have or want to see. More zoom meetings with authors? in person meetings? Anyone interested in hosting a meeting or planning an outing? Whatever ideas you have, feel free to email me.

Frank Howard, a four-time All-Star who slugged 382 home runs during a lengthy major league career that included a World Series title with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1963, has died. He was 87.

A big thank you to Bill Maisannes for sharing his knowledge about Japanese baseball and for bringing some really cool items. Thanks also to Tom Hardiman for sharing some of his original photos from the old negro leagues. We will regroup and send info out about our next meeting.
It’s interesting when you realize that baseball is much more than a game. It helped lead the civil rights movement in America and helped with foreign relations in Japan after WWII.

We will be hosting the next meeting of the Central Virginia Chapter of Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) on Saturday Aug 5th from 10am-Noon. You do not need to be a member of SABR to attend this event.
We are asking folks to bring their favorite piece of baseball memorabilia to show off. Also, if you want, please feel free to bring any items (cards, pennants, photos, pins, books, magazines, etc) that you want to sell or trade.
This will be strictly a 2- party transaction – up to the seller if they want paid in cash, check, venmo, paypal, etc.
In the SABR Chapter office, I have 25-30 original artworks on display from artists like Arthur K. Miller, Marc Chiarello, and Dick Perez. I also plan to bring my collection of original negro league photographs (25 or so) including Satchel Paige, Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Monte Irvin, Larry Doby.
Lastly, I plan to bring some vintage baseball cards if anyone is looking to buy or trade.
Go looking in your dad’s attic for that old baseball stuff! Bring it in and let’s talk about it.
